This is the photo of bottom of the amp. Unfortunately, the top side had no inscriptions as it was only a huge heatsink. There were no stickers on any of the other sides.

So no luck then :-(

Because the amp is the original version, if you try to update it with the Level A update CD it will definitely turn it into a brick. I don't know if it is possible to update it with PIWIS. There is a TSB on the subject, but it isn't very clear if it can be done.

So you are stuck between a rock and a hard place. If you want to get a cheap map DVD you can hardly go to an OPC and ask them to update the amp with the PIWIS without buying the maps from them. If you could find out for sure if it could be done, and then take it to an indy, that might be a way round it. Or if you are anywhere near me (Maidenhead, Berks) I'd be happy to do it for you.
Hi Richard,

So are you saying it would be possible to try and update the software via PIWIS without any chance of bricking the unit?
I have the same amplifier version as Alex, on SW Version 1.0 in a 2005 Cayenne.

Thanks,
MaKS

Like I said - I don't know if it is possible, and I wouldn't like to try it without knowing for sure. I would suggest asking an OPC for a definitive answer.

Hello
Please forgive me if this has been answered elsewhere but I cant seem to find anything.

I have an '05 997 carrera 2s. The DVD for the maps is an 04.2005 version (997.612.255.03)(7L5.919.859.AD).

I would like to get hold of the latest maps as it has sent me down dead ends before.

It says my software is version 3.3
Nav: 00174412/4804
Phone: 05034B54/0305
CD Changer: C38/3003
AMP: 00017500/3504
Unit: 04514BD1/5104
PCM: 05024ED1/4705

Can I just get hold of a new DVD (2008 I presume)? or do I also need some CD's to update any software?
Thanks

If you are running the 2005 map, your software is at Level B. To run the 2007 or 2009 map, you will have to update it to Level C. Drop me an email and I'll send you some instructions how to do it.

Can anyone tell me if there is a software update for mine. I think I am PCM2.0, not 2.1. I don't have a cassette but a CD. What was the difference between 2.0 and 2.1?

I'm a newbie, only had my car a week!

That's PCM2.0, and it looks like your software is up to date (V3.0).

PCM1 had the cassette slot and a separate CD Nav drive below the head unit. PCM2.1 has a grey/silver fascia, and a separate DVD Nav drive in the frontboot of a 997/987 or under the seat of a Cayenne.

ETA: Latest maps for PCM2.0 are 08.2007.

I have seen listed somewhere the way you find out the various versions but all seem to refer to main and trip being presed together. I seem to have a different unit and there is no "trp" button. It does however have Main, Audio, Tel, Nav BC and AC

What do I press on this one to get the information ?

You must have PCM1. Does it have a cassette player at the top? If so, it is.

Go to the AC screen, and press the lower right button. This will display the navigation and map versions. If you are lucky, and have a 16-bit navigation drive (Nav Software Ver PONA642D or
Nav Software Ver PONA628D) then there is a way you can use the 2010 Vaauxhall/Opel maps. PM me if you want details. If it is Nav Software Ver POIE609D then it is the old 8-bit drive and you are out of luck.

Hi Richard - You seem to be the font of all knowledge on the subject

I have done a screen shot of my PCM system.. I have a 3 set of PCM discs labelled 996.642.030.00 which is an old set I know - but the disc 3 ( europe and GB ) is goosed..so I wanted a simple set to replace this

Could you advise me the ones I could use ..most up to date ..and can i just put it in and go - or do i need to do some updates -

If only life was simple..

Thanks in advance

G

Not sure if you are allowed to post links to where i could buy one..but please do or PM if possible.

Hi,

I will be grateful if you will forward the link for purchasing the update disc for the 2003 Porsche Cayenne PCM navigation system (believe it is cheaper to purchse the disc from Bulgaria.

Thanks in anticipation.

Kind Regards

Hi guys

As you will see I'm new on here. I own a 955 Cayenne S, 06 plate and want to update my Navigation DVD to the latest available. Is this an 09 disc? I've read this on other forums but as I don't have any knowledge first hand on this I'd appreciate confirmation of this. Does anyone also know where to get the discs where they don't cost an arm and a leg?! I've searched ebay but can only find 2006 discs on there.

Any info would be gratefully received, also, I'm presuming from previous knowledge that an 06 Cayenne will be running PCM 2.1, would this need updating in order for the latest maps to work and if so where can one get this upgrade? Many thanks
