Bloody hell Keith, this thread gets more depressing as it progresses. So by all accounts Porsche won't supply a turn key engine. At that I am suprised and gobsmacked. So you have to rely on the expertise of your OPC to put everything back into the new hardware that it came out from in the correct order. Quick exit sounds the order of the day but in truth you are passing the buck. Warranty transferred so perhaps no harm done. For me that would not sit well, but if the inference is that we cannot trust an official Porsche centre to strip and rebuild an engine then WTF is the point of buying what used to be one of Germany's finest. Totally uneceptable in my view. It makes my blood boil when you look at quite a few chaps getting a hard on for the 2nd generation GT3RS when there still appears to be to many unresolved issues in a plus six figure car. I really can't see how you can win. Demand a turn key engine would be the best bet. Porsche supply the parts but you get a chap who you trust to build the engine. Obviously OPC UK won't wear that. I think I'd go to Germany. It will cost you a few quid but I would demand that the block assembly etc is rebuilt by the factory on the grounds that you have no confidence in the current UK dealer network. In your shoes I think that is what I would do. As I am sure Rutboy would agree re lambo, if in doubt take it to Italy.

I am actually suprised by the number of GT3/RS owners coming out of the woodwork admitting to these Bomb Proof/Never get RMS/GT REAL Racing Engines actually having issues.

Considering that there are allot less of these than the common as muck water cooled engines then i would love to know the percentage of these issues.

I was in OPC Leeds on Sat. Was looking at an orange GT3RS sat in the workshop, that was by the looks of it a race car or serious track car, had the plate ending ****WOW on it.

Wonder if that has had any issues seeing as it would probably have had a hardish life ?

Sorry to hear of your troubles mate.

Can't help but say "what did I tell you?" re Porsche Customer Service.

Arrogant pr1cks will learn the meaning of it when they're all out jobs because no-ones buying their cars.
Stand firm and say you want a new engine or you're going to SUE them.

Stick to the 'exchange engine' route if you can fella...
Another seal is unlikely to be the answer.. but you can half understand their logic in trying to go the £5 have a go suck it and see seal fix.. rather than a £15K new engine fix..!

Probably already been tried but have they fully tested the vacuum system? Andreas was saying they had found a lot of RMS type issues were actually vacuum issues - if there's a fault in the pipes that lets air in, then the seal no longer has a vacuum on one side and it leaks (also happens if the exhaust has had pipes removed to make it louder all the time).

Maybe not relevant but worth asking them...

My 996GT3RS had one rear RMS and two FMS go, the FMS were done at Leeds OPC, the first I paid for the second they paid for.

Now into a sweet GT3 Mk1 CS -- 57,000 and no *MS -- but it was built at Weissach.
And is lower compression and lower crank case pressure!

Edited by DanH on Friday 7th August 21:07
GT3MKI --- compression ratio 11.7 : 1 --- GT3 MKII and RS, same.
Max torque both at 5000 rpm, 370 v 385 Nm
Max power 265 v 280kW at 7200 v 7400 rpm
Max revs 7600 v 8200 in 1st to 4th, 8000 in 5th and 6th.
So I guess that the crankcase pressure may be higher, but how high ?

But it's a 997 RMS --- yes the compression ratio is higher !

The Ferrari/Maserati dealer just up the road (which used to also house the Porsche sales before they moved) will send a covered truck to pick up drop off your car. Don't they offer this service ? You may have to ask as its quicker/easier for them to send a delivery driver.

Porsche customer service is a joke..the lady i spoke to didnt know the difference between a crankcase and a tyre.....i asked to speak to technical they said i cannot speak to technical as they dont deal with the public....the engine rebuild was so they say the crankcase was leaking....it really is a joke..Porsche have now said rebuild the engine again...leeds OPC agree with me service guy and mechanics - this will not rectify the problem but porsche have told them to simply rebuild it again ...3 weeks later with less than a thousand miles - absolute bizarre....i have instructed them not to rebuild the motor as it NEEDS CRANKCASES..i have now had to go to Andy Goss...M.D. for porsche GB cars....will let you know the outcome.

Sorry to say this but IMO that Andy Goss is where all the "dont giss a T@@s about you" comes from. My engine o a 30k 997 went back & he did nothing to help.
