A 997 probably does the daily better, but the analogue fun less well. I think the 996 is already becoming a collectors' car. As a result, prices for good 996s, especially CS - both mk1 and 2 - are often higher than 997.1 in Europe.I know this is an old post, but just stumbled across it just now. For what it is worth, I reckon the 996GT3 makes a lot of sense as a buy at the moment. They are never going to get any cheaper and for the money, they offer a pretty hardcore driving experience. Whether they rise in value like the 964 and 993, I think is unlikely (for reasons outlined by others on here, e.g. front end looks, build quality, watercooled etc) but if you are buying for driving experience and pleasure, bang for buck is pretty strong!
