i prefer the bumper design of the 996, somehow it makes the front look longer and more aggressive - not a fan of the lights in the bumper opening on the 997 - kinda like they forgot these needed to go somewhere and put them on as an afterthought after the bumper design was finished (997 gt3 front on the other hand looks great imo)

The market will obviously decide but the 996 era was pretty awful in the looks dept IMO
Describing a 996 as pretty awful is well, beyond belief. The 996 GT2 is one of the most beautiful, aggressive yet subtle 911's ever made. It doesn't photograph particularly well but in the flesh I think they are stunning, as do those who pass by. For sure a standard 996 is not particularly exciting, but then again neither is narrow bodied 964, 993 or 997 for that matter. And the 991 looks like a barge. The 996 GT2 has also aged well, its got true class. Seeing one next to a 993 GT2 has made me realise one looks like and old racecar, revetted on panels etc.. and the other is a very usable, pretty but unassuming version that will knock it flat in terms of performance. So the 993GT2 aint a dog, on the contrary, but its not 5 or 8 times the car a 996GT2 is. It's just not. Its got the racing pedigree which is justified 100%. As for the 997GT2, well I think it looks superb. Its a little fussy in parts but is a more modern, harder edged GT2 that deserves all the acclaim it gets. I'm sure in time it too will age well, from certain angles it looks better than the 996, in others its a bit untidy. But in my opinion, the 996GT2 remains one of the finest looking road cars to come out of the factory, and the fact is none of the GT2's are awful or clunky. Not clunky

I have no doubt the market will decide, when it decides to wake up. It's not the looks of the 996GT2 that are the issue, more its terrible, unjustified reputation.....
