they certainty are, mines out on track in a few weeks time, can't wait
Nice one. Where are you headed? I need to give mine a good thrashing on track... Its time, or lack of it, thats the problem.supermono said:
What's the black rubber bit on there? Pretty sure mine doesn't have that -- actually it doesn't have the "weave" marks either. Had a glance at it last night whilst tucking it away in the garage.
This is long shot, a really long shot, but I'll run it up the flagpole anyway, and let's run with it.Supermono 996 GT2
Toby 997 GT2
Can you see where I'm going with this Steve ?

It is just a bad photo, there is no rubber bit - see pic belowSome interesting tid bits. The 996GT2 spoiler weighs 12.5kg, the 997GT2 spoiler weighs 8kg they are both made of "GFRP" but this term seems to encompass different types of GFRP since they say the Carbon (look) folding bucket seats are also made of this GFRP so presumably that is where the weave effect comes from on the lid above and presumably the 996GT2 had an early version of the GFRP which didn't have this carbon/weave look.
The GT2RS was "said" to have a different "rear spoiler" made of carbon and I always assumed that that meant the lid but it seems that there is only one lid listed by Porsche for both models (GT2 and GT2RS) which is 99751223381 which lists at £8500 (but is buyable at discounted £5000), so I guess they were referring to the specific carbon lip or the bit of carbon trim below the rear window on the RS - if anyone knows different I'd be interested ?

£8500?
That's the last time I use that as a table
The table bit with carbon lip is another £4500+VAT That's the last time I use that as a table
Out of interest how much clearcoat is applied to the roof of a GT2? I stupidly tried to hoover some dust off mine earlier and managed to put a massive scratch in it with the end to the hoover, textbook bellendery.
It's 95% polished out but I'm expecting black paint to start appearing on the polisher very soon. Need to get a paint depth gauge I reckon.

You've just tried to mop it out with your polisher ?? It's 95% polished out but I'm expecting black paint to start appearing on the polisher very soon. Need to get a paint depth gauge I reckon.
When I had a ChipsAway franchise we used to say as a rule of thumb, if you can feel it with your fingernail, it had probably gone through the clearcoat.
Either way, trying to remove the scratch with just a polisher can leave the panel looking rippled (and/or burnt) as you'll most likely concentrate the mopping in one area rather than blending it with the surrounding clearcoat.
Depending on the depth of the scratch, you'd have been better off flatting all (or the majority) of the scratch out with some used 2000 wet and dry, then blending it out with 3000 wet and dry, before mopping the clearcoat with a proprietary polishing compound.
A paint depth gauge won't tell you how much clearcoat is on the car, it'll tell you how much clearcoat, base coat, primer and Ecoat there is.
