Because you don't want new old tyres that have been sitting around, recommendation as per handbook is not to run tyres over six years old so if you only do a low mileage you don't want new tyres turning up that are already two years old.

Hope that makes sense?

^ This. But in reality you don't want six year old tyres on a 996 GT2 (or indeed any GT2) if you're going to be driving it as it's maker intended. 3 years max would be my recommendation, and if you think that's OTT, try driving two cars back to back, one with fresh tyres and one with four year old examples, you may be surprised at the difference ....

Just got mine ready for this year, 3 new Radiators, left right and centre, had new Bosch Battery a few weeks ago, also did spark plug service and new front splitter and front stone guards in front of the front wheels...

Also had O Ring seals replaced on Condensers, OPC did a great job, got a Boxter Loaner for 3 days and got a good discount on Parts and they actually only charged me labour for the Spark Plug Service so can't complain, and they discounted that by 20% too. Still a fair old bill though with £1500 in parts.. Ouch!!!

New front splitter makes the car look like new again, surprised at the difference in that too.

Anyway rest of car also checked over, washed and valeted.

Changing the plugs seems to have made a significant difference.
Previous ones had only done 6k miles so I'm surprised at the difference, they also run diags on it, all came back clean as a whistle.

Looking forward to summer, may do CITP at Newby Hall if weather holds on Sunday,

Next job, get some mesh guards fitted to protect the Radiators!!

Planning to hold on to this one for at least the next 20 years so I feel like I'm investing some value back in to the car.

I will meet with Michelin Motorsport this weekend and ask for a contact in the aftermarket road division. Needless to say I wouldn't hold your breath as 18's are pretty much dead now.. That said if its grip you want then it's Yoko AO48R or Nitto NT01 - like anything else half decent they're compromised in the full wet, fine in the damp.
Excellent. Remind them of this ad as well. I'm sure they don't want the world to think they're liars. wink

I saw 57k this weekend, cars still looking mint but driven if I can every weekend. What a car,
driven a lot of different cars from 360CS, 355's, GT3 RS, M3's and nothing has given me this much fun. Absolute nightmare to drive before getting the car set up but once the suspension had a full freshen and good tyres, its simply magic !!

Next trip, Dijon de L'Age d'or Historic Classic next month so cant wait !

Popped in to see how my "little" project is doing and they had this original GT40 in for some work
before the Classic series really kicks off.

Mine has a Miltek, the car came with this and it sounds great. If ever sold up I would put the standard one back on but I think for a car thats so raw, the standard exhaust does not match the
looks.

Yes. I have a Gemballa on the one and a 9FF on the other. The Gemballa has the cats removed AND the silencer internals discarded. It sounds truly immense with the turbo's whistling up and down the rev range, has a wicked crack on up-shifts and gobs flames out. It is loud....

The 9ff is switchable unit (with valves) so is far more sensible. It will be taken off the Clubbie and a standard one put back on so as to put the car totally back to standard. Less aggressive than the comfort with the Gemballa but a massive improvement over OEM which kills the car IMO.

Do it.

Sounds like I need the Gemballa in my life, that sounds excellent ! All for flames, keeping the car in the 935 Tradition, shame not to.

You should drop by one time.
I'm literally a mile away.
