Awesome smile

Car looks great.

I've just agreed a sale on my Cayman R so that should be gone this week. I've decided to use the GT2 as and when I want now. I bought the Cayman R to keep the GT2 miles down after the values started going up. The reality is that I don't have much time to drive either now and when I do drive the Cayman I wish I was in the GT2. I'll never sell the GT2 so I've decided that it makes no difference if it's got 34,000 or 134,000 miles on it.

Driving it at Goodwood next weekend, and we've got the GT2 meet at Silverstone on the 24th October, is everyone signed up for that?
Good news about sale of Cayman R

Reference GT2 meet only at Silverstone on the above date, numbers now up to about 15 cars to date but would like to try and get to 20 cars!
so if anyone else would like to bring their car to this please email me or 996GT2 with your details, as this will be the most GT2's in one place?
If anyone has details of the meet let me know. I will bring one, or two if I can find a trusted individual to drive the other.... ;-)
Porsche Silverstone Experience Centre - Saturday 24th October

We've got around 15 cars at the moment.

KAL is dealing with Porsche, we currently have teas and coffees, we're still negotiating for pastries smile

We'll also have access to the Silverstone auction preview.

Will be great to get as many GT2s as possible in one place. I emailed Total 911 but they didn't reply, will try the other mags today to see if we can get a write up and some decent photos.

Cheers,
Gavin

Had a brilliant day at Goody. Got scared half to death in 996 GT2,s car. Simply mind bending performance on the straights with huge grip in the corners. It's hard to get your head round the fact that these are road cars !!!

Good to see you on Saturday mate, glad you enjoyed the laps smile

The car is epic, I've not used it much this year but I did 500 miles last weekend and it still amazes me after 4 years of owning it.

Goodwood is a superb track, very fast, I think we were over 150 before braking, I reckon there's 160+ there in a GT2 with a decent driver.

Looking forward to the Silverstone meet.

How does the GT2 compare with the Turbo? Is the performance comparable or an altogether more 'wilder' rider?

If you take a turbo and a GT2 and do 0-300-0 Kmh, the turbo is still accelerating when the GT2 is back to 0 cool

However in real life in don't think you feel much of a difference.

In my opinion a standard GT2 nowadays feels sluggish and tame. A map and a few other small mods are needed to bring the car back in line with it's reputation as a fast car in today's world. With approaching 600 bhp and appreciably more torque they are a weapon.....

Really?

Never driven a standard one but can't imagine that's the case?

Anyway mines at around 600. Not sluggish biggrin

Have not got round to it yet. I was so impressed with the Cups tyres that you could feel when they came on
So I'm looking for a set of Super Sports for the old wheels.
Fair play to Gav for taking his car on track as you could never
Reach that level of raw pace safely on the road. Looking at the new computer controlled Porsches
of late, the performance figures look almost as quick but it's all about feel and that untamed raw feeling
that you simply cannot get in anything modern. Cannot wait to get back in mine next week, I'm going to come off the E40 early at Aachen and hit the back roads upto the Ring then onto Koln.

Bought to drive and not to Idol worship.

Good points J. The GT2 isn't massively fast compared to the tech-laden cars of today, the difference is that it delivers massive performance in a way that you have to manage as the driver. As you saw the PSM in the 997 didn't kick in once at Goodwood even whilst throwing the car around, braking from 150 and going into a chicane etc - it's still a raw car. The McLaren that was there just looked dull to me, you can hear the car doing all the work with the driver just blitzing past everyone on the straights, where's the enjoyment in that car other than on the high street with the roof down?

Doing 500 miles in my car was a pleasure, it doesn't have nav or anything techy inside - I actually got lost a few times and found some great roads - even though it's a 2008 car it retains what the old cars were I think.

Lost in Herefordshire smile

The car is Old school as you had to drive it and thats why the 996-7 are very very special. You feel everything, the PSM light did not flash once so Porsche have set the car as a drivers car.

I was in Knightsbridge last night to see a friend over on business and you see the usual Super cars driven by guys blasting around in the wet, when I was a kid you would see Porsche Turbos, Diablos etc driving around with respect and that was purely because they were designed for drivers i.e. no electric toys to keep you out of Sloane Str shop windows and that to me added a bit of Charm and Mystique. Just my honest account which might not be the view of everyones so sorry if I have offended anyone.

The McLaren was very quick for sure but I have no desire to own one. It looked almost remote controlled. Thats modern cars for you I think thats why people change cars very often now because it takes half the time to learn them. Im still learning mine after 5 years and it just keeps getting better the more I understand whats happening through the seat and not which light flashes on the dash. Have really got into Historique racing in a big way IE Grp C and Lotus Cortinas etc and thats because they have to be driven and that makes it exciting to watch.
