Managed to get out on Saturday. The car funny enough feels a little different with the MK1 wheels so I need to check tyre pressures. Very happy with my choice to put them back on, they seem to look more clean and larger in dia so they really fill out the arch but thats probably just mesmile

Am thinking about coming to the RS day as a spectator and will probably come in the GT2, but on road tyres.

It is quite a trek from the South East, did it a few times. Well worth it though if you can make it.

My car was MOT'd today, no advisories, not bad for an old motor. Also hit 40k miles on the way there. Probably worthless now.

Agreed, I've lost 4 people close to me in the last 12 months, been a total stter of a year, a drive in the GT2 is a welcome break from it all and a reminder that life is short and is to be enjoyed.

Friday should be good. KAL can't make it as he's hanging with some bhes at Crufts.

Lolllllllllll😆😆

After loosing my Father in law last year, lost a friend last Friday who I was only texting a day before and boom heart attack, found slumped on her computer dead. Mileage is the last thing on my mind.

I'll try and come if I can get out the office👍

Porsche 997 GT2 Update - 4 Years on.... Dyno'd her, 538 BHP and 530 ft/lbs :-)

So its a long time since I posted, initially years ago doing a big piece on owning the car and impressions after 3 months.

Well now 4 years on and I thought I'd give another update on the car and the ownership, along with costs.

In last 4 years I've put about 8K on the car, unfortunately rising values have put me off driving it so often.

When I bought the car it felt mentally quick and was, doing the usual slipping the clutch in 4th at lower revs and high torque overwhelming the clutch, it then went in to Porsche Leeds for an Engine out recall on the hoses, a 2 or 3 day job in total that was covered under warranty / recall.

They did a full service and plugs at the time, checked the clutch which was fine as it car was only on around 14K. Took it home, car felt different and i raised this with Leeds OPC a few times and it's was thoroughly checked and given a clean bill of health, but the responsiveness of when I bought the car simply wasn't there and boost was tailing off at the top end, dont get me wrong it was still very quick, but the seat of the pants could tell. A little performance testing of 60 to XXX showed times were not dissimilar to published figures, so Im thinking did they put a remap on the car when it was in at the OPC during the engine out and servicing....

In the meantime the car has been further serviced, its had Gearbox Oil Changes, Engine Oil, Brake Fluids and all the usual stuff, along with all the front rads changed because the OPC thought one was leaking and joints corroded due to leaves collecting in the front of the air intakes covering the side rads, so I thought sod it, whilst its in bits just replace all three as 6 years old, preventative maintenance etc. They mis diagnosed and there was never a leak, so all labour costs at the offer of Leeds OPC for entire service ended up being FOC, I only paid for the parts.. result. Was still a few quid though, but at least I know they are all basically now as new so less worries and the mesh I put in front to stop leaves getting it looks great.

Despite further checks due to previous engine out Im still suspecting Boost leakage somewhere, so OPC check it again during next service / inspection, no change, all checks out.

Eventually it gets to two weeks ago, I take it out and do some runs to check boost pressure, its falling off at the top end a little.

Culprit appears to be have been the Boost Recirculation Valves Bolted to the Turbos (Pics in thread) , I decided then to order some Agency Power Ones which are beautifully made Billet Aluminium Piston ones, for some reason they delivered 2 sets, so I have a spare if anyone interested. Fitted them last weekend and.....

Well the difference is night and day between the old ones, the old ones have seen better days I think, the old spring has more coils and is certainly weaker than the new one, new one has less coils and stiffer, the quality of the new one is superb.

I also lubricated the Variable Turbo Actuators and cleanup, the old BRV Rubber seal had not gone, but it certainly had dirty and grit around the seals on both which should not have been there and would have prevented a clean seal, maybe this was leaking the boost, or maybe seal and spring just had it..

Once the new BRV's were fitted, i took it for a test drive, instant response and holds on to Boost all way to the red line. I know this because the guy who did the rolling road at WVS Performance this weekend (Video attached) seemed really amazed at what it pulled and said it had held on to boost all the way up.

Id never done a rolling road before on any car, but wanted to know if i had a problem, I guess there are three things that can happen during these sessions,
1. disappointment and then go find the problem, not good.
2. All is as expected or close enough and you walk away happy.
3. Car considering its 8 to 9 years old exceeds quoted specs and runs like a dream and now very happy.

Well which did I get, I got number 3. Phew, my mates had turned up too to watch, so car didn't embarrass and turned out to being back to a Beast.

https://youtu.be/AgIVx--ucak

The rolling road process was really quite interesting, the guys at WVS Performance in Scarborough (no affiliation btw) did a super careful job of getting the car setup and strapped in safely, took about an hour in total just to strap it in to their satisfaction.

Then came the parasitic test to measure transmission loss, so car was taken to 120 mph on the rollers and allowed to spin down.

The guys then did a load of runs, i was worried about 4th gear clutch slippage, so first some were done in 3rd and then 4th Gear Pulls, something to do with a 1 to 1 mapping / ratio.

Air Temp was around 12'C, but obviously after a few runs, they were concerned about heat soak in the manifolds etc and intake temps.

So then did 2 or 3 4th Gear runs, first one is captured on the video, what was surprising is the consistency of all the runs.

We all know Porsche often underquotes HP /Torque figure, seems this is no different, factory is around 530 bhp and 501 ft/lbs, car was on Shell VMAX, but put out 538 bhp and 530 ft/lbs, at one point on the Video it evens shows a peak in one of the boxes of 549 bhp, but I'll settle for 538 bhp. The maximum Torque I saw was 532 ft/lbs.

Torque Curve is very flat and appears to come in strong and low, and HP curve is also nice and smooth, also said it was feeling perfectly and was spot on, along with it was the most accurate speedo he had ever seen, who knew!

The great thing for me is that I can see the boost being held up to the Redline and I can now feel it in the seat and how the car performs and responds, the Dyno just confirms that its working as it should be. And those BRV Valves made all the difference.

Car has really not cost a lot to run in the last 4 years, and I think it just shows how capable and well built these things are even after 8 to 9 years its still beating factory figures and frankly I'm very very happy with it and will probably Never sell it. Roll on the summer.. :-)

It's about to go in for a Major Service and have just bought some new Cup 2's for the Rear so will be completely fresh for the summer.

Your thinking is a bit contradictory, just put some miles on the thing and enjoy it.

I think this is the White GT2 that was parked up in Knightbridge. Needs a bit of TLC but solid car. Went for
88k. Was this a respray or was there actually white as an option ?

Carrara White was an option for the 996.

Standard options were:

Black
Carrara White
Speed Yellow
Guards Red

Metallic options:
Lapis Blue
Arctic Silver
Basalt Black
Lagoon Green
Midnight Blue

Is this car the mk2? That was originally midnight blue I think, reg EEU?

I think thats the one. Its a bit of a bargain really when you think of it. 10K for a good respray back to original and boom 160K car thankyou very much. I saw an article in a Porsche mag saying that the 996 GT2 is one to cherish and not drive. I want Karls aircooled so I can ease up on the GT2.
