Why 135kmh when you can cruise at 170 and if caught get a 90 EUR fine (if that) and get to chat with the Gendarmes about the car... It's the best value for money speeding on Earth
Really? I am driving through France at the end of May so I really want to know. Everything I've been reading (on here in the Roads and SPL sections) implies that speeding in France is no longer the done thing. Huge fines and threats of cars being confiscated. I do not want to be separated from my GT..3consul said:
Its seems like I am getting closer to the 600 cut of for Sunday Service, is anyone meeting up to go as a group ?
I seem to remember quite a few dropped out just before the last one, you should make the 600 easily.Happy to meet up as we did last time, same place? What time?

Think your being perfectly reasonable at 135-140 without realising its gone down to 110or 90 for a spell. Rule is more than 50kph above the limit is where it starts becoming an issue.

Above 180 to 190 things get nasty and the fine goes up to 270 or something but the worst thing is that they CAN ban you from driving on the spot. Above 190kmh it's nightmare scenario as they can IMPOUND the car as a security that you will pay the 750 EUR fine. Something along those lines.
Am not sure about the last 2 scenario as I try to always stay below 180kmh. Been caught twice, twice they have been extremely kind and courteous, paid my contribution to the State Finances, complimented them on the exceptional condition of their motorways and was swiftly sent on.
Mind you I only increase speed when dry and light traffic, if you drive like a maniac I imagine they would much less amicable.
The issue in France is more in rural areas on the N-roads (equivalent to our A roads).. they are frequently seen on those especially when going through Urban areas. I've been speed-checked frequently in 50kmh zones.. so keep religiously to the limit there, then on the big wide roads also try to stay below 40kmh ABOVE the speed limit if you want to avoid big issues. If you are on the D-smaller roads.. then especially if in the middle of nowhere you should be safer.
As always drive responsibly and it should be ok.
