Was it worth re-posting the second post in the thread. And I thought I was dull biggrin

I know what you mean - but, well, what can I say - their reputation precedes them tongue out

Done a search and you crop up quite often with advising against, but no reason why.

Have you actually had a bad experience?

I was actually there a couple of weeks ago having a look at a nice cheap black impact bumper SSC. They had described it as needing some work, but to be honest, it seemed a very straight car. At 15k though, there was a waiting list for it, however they were still happy for me to wonder around the car.
Glad you like it, I was worried for a second you were about to pick up on something you didn't like and so I'm glad of your comments. I should be picking it up in about 2 weeks time. :-)

On a personal note in relation to Harry/Portiacraft. I haven't got the car yet, I'll keep you informed, but I have to say he came across as a sound man. The amount of idiots and dreamers who must waste their time (and other indies) must be immense. However I believe that an honest browser would have no probs looking around their cars.
I was straight with Harry that I had a car to sell first, he was cool with that, so I left my deposit. No messing, no Bull.

Nice one!
I saw it in the advert before they brought it in, and they really talked the car down, but seeing it in the flesh was a different story. I knew it was gone, so didn't thoroughly check it over, but it was certainly far better than they made out.

Hi All,
i went to have a look at a porsche C4S at Portiacraft a few weeks ago (2010) and i spoke with a man called Martin, to be fair he was really straight forward and to the point, i liked this because there was no bullst. quite a plesent meeting i would say, he helped me have a look around a few cars and we chose one. This was a saturday afternoon.
Deal was Harry was going to call me monday to confirm all and get the finance started.
Didnt get a call on Monday, so on tuesday i called them. long story short Harry fobbed me off, sounded like he couldnt be bothered much and on top of all that told me the car had been sold on the saturday by the very last person that came in just before they closed for business. Funny that, because i was the last one in there on that saturday!
anyhow i did ask Harry of he had any other cars to offer me, from the vast collection of cars in their showroom he still had the nerve to say naa not much right now lol !

Again long story short i ended up buying a car from another dealer £5k more then what i was going to spend with Harry. morel of story dont think everyone that comes through you door is a prat or a time waster. i was a serious buyer with money and he fobbed me off. his loss, someone elses gain.

note to Harry: loose the chip on your shoulder, i know you have a ''successful'' businessman but your not the centre of the porsche world. if you learn how to chill and trust a little more you might get more deals.

anyway, i know there a few Portiacraft buddies on here, no offence to you all im sure you had a great experience. but this is how i feel, im not knocking his quality of product but i am knocking him as a sales person, owner, service provider etc!

i now have a lovely C4S and its going strong. i dont worry about any issues because i trust the dealership and i can sleep well at night knowing if anything eler goes wrong it will be dealt with without any squirmy sales fells trying to fob me off!

Ciao

Did you leave a deposit or did you just say you were having it. I have found Harry and Martin so straightforward and I cannot imagine once a deal is done they would go back on it. I should imagine a lot of people mess them around with drives and promising to come back and buy the car with no intention of ever doing so and if I had a car for sale I would sell it to the first person who actually laid some money out..

You really dont have to fall in love with the sales person. Its the car you are taking home with you.

I dont care if they are ugly, rude and smelly - as long as the cars are good and come with the back up you expect from a good independant.

No i didnt leave a deposit because the chap that showed me around (Martin) told me to wait till monday morning when one of their finance guys will call me FIRST THING. once i had the chat wit hthe finance man the deal would be struck and made final. thats why i didnt leave a deposit.

Like i said come Monday Martin had a day off, but i know he left a detailed message on Harrys desk asking him to call me to sort out the car. Come on guys this is Sales were talking about here, im in the sales business my self and i tell you what i would never pass on a ''possible deal'' weather its a time waste or not. you NEVER know which is time wasting and which isnt and im just not willing to loose a possible sale because i ''thought'' it was a timewaster!

Anyway thank god for Piston Heads Forum, i came accross this a few days after i pet Portiacraft. phew so glad i didnt get it from there now. NOT SAYING ANYTHING BAD BUT IM JUST GLAD THATS ALL!

Oh and if a certain proprietor of a certain company that is in discussion on this page can stop from sending any further emails informing me that he has been informed of this discussion going on and telling me that i dont even know him etc etc i would appreciate it!

This is a forum for open discussions that is the whole point of forums isnt it? if not then please someone correct me! point im making is i havent slagged anyone off entirely all i have done is list in words my experience truthfully to the best of my knowledge.

anyway to all you porsche lovers enjoy your cars i hope they bring you lots of happiness and very few speeding tickets.

Ciao

I contacted Portiacraft last year about a car they had for sale. I spoke with Harry, he was going to look into a couple of questions I had, but never called back. I rang to chase, was told I would get a return call within an hour, that was a year ago. Seems the norm for them...........

I have seen the comments re Portiacraft and wanted to let you know of my experience with them.

Six months ago I started looking for a 996. I visited Cridfords, JZM, and Portiacraft.

I thought both Russ at JZM and Chris(?) form Cridfords were both very helpful and their knowledge was terrific. JZM is a lot closer to an OPC than the other two but I feel this was reflected a bit in their prices and their attention to detail when discussing their cars.

However, I found both Martin and Harry very straightforward and helpful too. Their prices are good value, they turned round the car and finance package in two days and I have been enjoying every minute of the car since. There have a been one or two very small issues with the car and on one other occasion some items were pinched off the car but each time I took the car in, they fixed it all up under warranty, loaned me a car in the meantime and even replaced the stolen bits free of charge.

You go to a garage to buy a car - not to have a love in with a salesman. I guess it depends on whether some people want their ego's massaged because they are buying a 'Porsche' but it all boils down to the right car at the right price with a good warranty.

I work in sales too, and it seems that only the people with issues ever go onto forums and bleat. rarely is someone altruistic enough to start a thread with ' what a great experience I had.....' Portiacraft must have hundreds of people in each month so they are not going to be perfect in everyone's eyes all the time.

That's all folks.

I bought a 2007 997 from portiacraft in jan of this year 2010 ,i live 50 miles away in milton keynes, bucks ,usual stuff ,saw car on the net , and made appointment to see it ,olli ,harrys son test drove with me ,and harry done the deal around £37k. I can say that my experience was a good solid one with no BS,
and believe that making an appointment to test drive these 911s would increase your status of a serious buyer, as apposed to walking in off the street.
If i owned such a business ,test pilots would drive me batty.
So do you want to spend £4-5k more at opc or seek out an honest straight talking indi ,has the likes of Portiacraft ,cause he aint holding a gun to yr head ,unless his sales pitch has changed ,lol.
