Porsche bores the living hell out of me with their endless models of basically the same vehicle.

A car fan (but not necessarily a P fan) shouldn't have to resort to wikipedia to know whether or not he is looking at a good 911, a base 911, or a great 911 because they all look so damn similar and there are so many models of meaningless distinction.
Yeah sure really boring 0.60 3s!!
If it isn't broken why fix it,as ever the 911 turbo is still king of the mini supercar league and always has been.
Yes they look similar thats the whole point, you look at old italian stuff from the 70-80's they look terrible nowadays, look at a 70's 911 still stunning.

Got one coming next month, i have deleted the Spyder look wheels as i think they
look gank, and much prefer the standard wheels.
Hope i've done the right thing there.

Suppose it's personal, but I think the lightweight centre lock Spyder wheels look stunning - much more of a 'motorsport' design and far better rim protection.

Removing them (a £2k option) for the standard wheels might be seen as a negative at re-sale. Far better, if you can negotiate it, might be the new 'Fuchs' wheels.
Understand what you are saying, just when you see them in the flesh, they look so 2 dimensional, the facia and inners are flat and featureless imo, whereas if you look at the HRE P40's which are basically the same spoke design, they look so much better for having some more detail to them.

Am still concerned about resale, however, this will have to last me 4-5 years like my last TT Cab, so won't make much difference by then.

G.
I didn't realise these Spyder wheels were fitted as standard to the S. Even though personally i prefer the look of the Turbo 2 wheel - i think it would be a financial mistake to de-select the Spyder rims for the standard ones.

My worry would be that you may make your car look like a standard Turbo.... with an S badge nono

Either way, enjoy that car - its the biz

I prefer the standard wheels as well.

Just out of curiosity how difficult is it to change a wheel with just a center nut? how much torque does it take to tighten that thing?

Well done Glenn and good luck this season. Will be at at a BTCC weekend or two this year. As it happens we are supporting the CSL Cup. Do they share any dates with you guys?
Enjoy the S. T

Some other forums I read were saying the Gen 2 turbo was producing 550hp? Would be interesting to see what this produces in independent tests(obviously much is hear-say and when dyno'd there are zillion factors)

Bugger, conscience has got the better of me, well, like the thought of potentially throwing money away has got to me.

Re-spec'd the Spyder wheels today, as i don't want any of the old 'he's just stuck a S Badge on there'

Already looking for aftermarket options.

No idea on the torque rating, i'm assuming the car will come with some kind of special torque bar/wrench jobbie....?

In my experience, Porsche's quoted figures have always been conservative. On the otherhand, many dynos are over optimistic.

Still be more interested in the dynamic and chassis improvements than outright performance. Is this really a Turbo that will appeal to the GT3 enthusiast?

If I could own one sports car this would be it. Why?? See reasons below

1. 0-60 mph in 3.3 seconds officially, although likely to be around 2.9 seconds in the hands of car magazine testers.
2. 0-100 mph in 7.1 seconds officially, although likely to be around 6.7-6.8 seconds in the hands of car magazine testers.
3. Just shy of 25 mpg on the combined cycle for a car like this is nothing short of unbelievable. Just a few years ago my R32 would do that.
4. Being a relatively small car, it is very easy to drive and park and does not scrape the front on an uneven camber, or speed bumps etc, etc. Trying achieving that in other similar cars.
5. Launch control which can be used again and again and again.
6. When adding up all the options on the Turbo S and then configuring a standard turbo with the same options you quickly relaize that it is a good deal as the options are worth between £15-£20k anyway. Notwithstanding the fact that you cannot at the moment go for a 530 bhp package on the standard turbo.
7. From everything I have read the ride quality is very easy to live with when compared to similar sports cars.
8. I think it looks very nice. The rear is stunning as is the side profile. The front may not be as stunning as some other super cars but this should not detract from the fact that this car is a good looking car.
9. It is understated rather than in your face and if you know your cars you'll certainly know what this is when you see it on the road. For me I would prefer to have a car like this. Subtle but when needed sledgehammer performance.
10. As one magazine contributor put it "It is incredibly fast, indeed, it's approaching Mclaren F1 levels. How much more can you say?
11. Servicing costs are very affordable for this type of car. Needs a minor service every 2 years, and a major service every 4 years. Cost for a minor service is around the £400 mark and the cost of a major service is around £1000-£1200. Compare this like for like for other cars and you will realize what I mean.

For all those people who go on about the fact that it's still more or less the same shape as before and this some how is supposed to make it less appealing. I say once you have reached perfection you can only tinker around the edges. As an overall hyper performance car this is as close to perfection as you can get. Porsches's mantra is evolution not revolution. This is probably why they have been doing so well over the years.

For anyone that will be buying one. Congratulations. Maybe one day I will be in a similar position.

If I think of any more reasons I'll let you know.

the S turns in keenly and precisely (Porsche claims in the manner of a mid-engined car and there is at least some truth in that)
So Porsche have made a 125k ukp automatic 911 that handles almost as well as 38k ukp Cayman?

What a beast with such potent figures. Have driven a 996 Turbo, and I thought that was rapid, but this thing must be on a totally different level.

My favourite turbo is still the 993 'S' model.
