Quick concensus? Have you stuck to Mobil 1 or tried another? What were the benefits ? was it Ow40 or 5w50 or other?

I ve read the thread on Opie Oils- for those who have mapped / bigger turbo what have you done??

Cheers

0w-40 is the default choice for most, can also use 15w-50 or 5w-50.... helps maintain oil pressure at hotter op temps when really ramping the car. There are other weights that you can use of course.

Wouldnt 15w be a bit thick for a Turbo? thought we werent allowed beyond 5w?

Was also my concern, but I'm running it at the mo on the recommendation of FS (who run all their cars on it), but may switch to 5w-50 at my next oil change.

I am using Mobil Synt S 5W/40 fully synthetic from Opie oils but am wondering if it is worth changing to another make so am interested in what others are using. I am changing oil and filter every 5K.

I'm using M1 15w50 too seems fine, marginally quieter from an engine noise perspective.

Mobil 1 New Life 0W/40

Halfords had it on offer a couple of weeks ago at £39.99 for 5L. Gone back up to £49.99 now.

I have a bit of Castrol Edge 10W60 left over from my M6. Is that suitable for a 996tt?

Not according to Porsche. It has approved no oil with a 10w-XX viscosity grade. There is on another forum a poster who has racked up over 400K miles on his 996 Turbo and mostly runs Mobil 0w-40 oil. He recently tore down the engine thinking it needed to be rebuilt -- even though it was not showing any signs of needing a rebuild -- only to find no measurable wear.

If you want a slightly heavier oil there is a 5w-50 oil approved. Note that was not a typo for 15w-50. I just had Mobil 1 5w-50 used in my 03 Turbo's latest oil change and plan on sticking with this oil from now on. My Turbo just has 124K miles. Same goes for my 02 Boxster which has accumulated almost 285K miles running Mobil 1 0w-40 oil.

Porsche spend millions in R&D, stick to the specified oil! Even remapped/tuned cars.
