I think it will be more expensive to run than you think. Admittedly the brakes and tyres are smalller and cheaper than a 993TT but the Caterham etc will give you this without the worry of a Lotus acronym. And I bet a 993TT would still be cheaper to run over the course of a year, throwing reliability into the mix.

This is not as true as you may think, as the Exige is almost as compromised as a Caterham - in fact it is arguably much more difficult to get into and out of, and much noisier in the cabin.

I agree with you - I was thinking of a 40k budget for one, I priced a GTR up and you could just about do that if you are clever with sourcing parts. Interestingly a 525bhp Chevy supercharged engine only costs about 5k.

Those are good choices - the 7 Blackbird is v interesting for the money.

I'm sure I'll end up with the 993tt in the end. Interesting to look at the other options though.
Quite fancy a 993tt put on a diet. Plenty of weight can be lost with carbon front seats, no rear seats, ditch the stereo & speakers, fit lightweight battery, techart carbon doors & lids. Comes to about 150kg lost. Fitting RS rack and suspension would tighten things up a little too.
I've heard another 80kg can be lost converting to rwd only too. Although this might bugger the acceleration and accentuate arse out moments (good and bad). What do you think about this?
Car would become a hybrid of RS / T4. Like a prettier version of the GT2, with a power hike.
