My point being at the point of 3 years down the line the Panamera is forecast to be worth £30k odd (as per Mike @ sports and classic) and the M3 3 years down the line is worth....wait for it...nearly £30k odd...ohhh looks like I have a choice in that price bracket for a fast 2+2 car which will both be 3 years old (with seats that can be reasonably used by adults or kids who have outgrown the 911) rolleyes
but a Pan is not a 2+2, its a proper 4 door saloon

M3 is a nice car but bit odd to view it as a competitor to a Pan - totally different segments. M3 competes with AMG C class, RS Audis, cheapest 911 Lexus ISF etc

Pan competes with Merc S, Audi A8, BMW 7, Maserati QP, AM Rapide etc

The Middle East is a big area for Porsche and their Panamera. Has anyone mentioned the Middle East?

I think after China and the U.S, the ME hold 3rd position for Cayennes iirc. I imagine the Panamera will take it up also.

I think the M3 is compared because it has 4 seats and it is almost as fast as the Pan Turbo and I thought the Top Gear comparison summed up the competition pretty well.....

Pan turbo - noticeably quicker, 4 doors (not seats), twice the price ?? still not buying this at all.

When I got my RS4 I considered similar cars of similar price ie M3 saloon and AMG C class, did not conisder a 612 scag even though it had 4 seats!?!?!

So yes TG got it right as did every magazine review, none of them were daft enough to compare it with an M3 because no potential buyer would

I think you've completely and absolutely missed the point of the whole thread.

Well done on stating the obvious that the Panny costs a lot more than the M3 when NEW, however the point of the whole thread is that the Panny is depreciating rapidly (far more rapidly than the M3 which links into my post on this subject - see below).

As such, in 3 years time the Panny will be priced (according to some on here) in a terriorty directly comparable to a similarly aged M3. So for people like myself, who love Porsche but want a more practical car and are moving towards M3 ownership, the Panny provides a genuine Porsche alternative which didn't previously exist.

Now I know that's not what you read in the TG magazine, but sometimes in life it's worth forming your own 'independent' thought process. In due course I'm after a performance car which has an element of practicality to it, I want it to be up to 3 years old and be around £30k.... so please tell me, why should I not consider the Panny and M3 in that ownership decision?

Also, just for clarity, the M3 can also be purchased as a 4 door saloon too - your 2 posts on this thread suggests you have missed that point.

Dare to be different.

Looks like the Tonbridge demonstrator is up for grabs, at £20k off list.

I was collected from home in that car last week and driven to Tonbridge. Loved the inside but still can't get on with the outside.

Couldnt agree more ken- I think the interior is fantastic; and I don't doubt that it is an astoundingly dynamic and capable car to drive. But in a few years time when we might need a family car instead of a 911, this would in theory fit the bill perfectly. But I just can not stand the looks on the outside- too huge at the front, really don't like the rear treatment, and generally bulbous and ugly.

The Panamera got the official seal of disapproval from the Mrs, so one will never grace the Whitean garage! It's a real shame in my opinion; I wish they hadn't tried to make it look like a 911.

Apologies for the thread resurrection but these Panamera's are holiding onto their value rather well aren't they?

How long before the £25k Panamera S do we think? A 2010 S/4S car is still a good £33k - £35k.

Believe so, might nudge them down a little.

Any Panamera owners on here put their dog in the boot ok? Looks like a very useable hatchback space.

S more fun than the 4S or is it negligble and the AWD bonuses outweighs the fun?

New one will still be big for UK use.

Much more interesting will be Porsche's forthcoming 3/5 Series sized 'sports saloon'.

That's pretty interesting; we're about to collect a Golden Retriever and I'm looking for something to replace my m135i as a daily.

Panamera is pretty high on my list, but I was concerned about getting a pooch in the boot. Does he cope well with long journeys? We go from the North West to Gloucestershire fairly regularly so it'd need to be quite comfy for him.

Thread resurrection aside, which coincidentally happened to be bang on as the all new one is unveiled, numbers on the first page seem like wishful thinking - where are these 35k Panny Turbos? At any age, never mind 3 years old!
