But the GTS doesn't diminish the performance of the C2S or the TurboS the Turbo nor the GT2RS the performance of the GT2 so the GT3RS will still be a great car just not the best...It's not owning the best 911 that will hurt some, but the car on your drive is still the same as it was yesterday surely?
That is so, but Porsche (and others - witness the laughable premium that BMW are asking for the M3 GTS) are able to get big money out of scarcity value alone, above and beyond the actual incremental cost of producing the limited elements of the limited edition. After one has paid that additional scarcity premium, it can be pretty bloody galling when the manufacturer then makes the product less scarce, thus reducing substantially its scarcity value, for which one has just paid them a lot of money!
I think you could drive yourself mad and become poor always trying to keep up with the latest car porsche produce best to love the car you have for the reasons you bought it...and if money is no object then enjoy the fact you can splash out on a new version every 12 months!
Cheers...
Well one of the guys there made some renderings but does anyone really know if this will happen?

After all of the speculation in the other thread, I decided to try out rendering this new GT3. I call it the Porsche 911 GT3 'Hybrid', because chances are it will have KERS, and Porsche might call it a 'Hybrid'. I have no idea when it will come out, but I'm guessing towards the very end of the 997's life.
Here is what the car could possibly have.
KERS
500hp
4.0 Liter RSR Engine
Larger rear wing
New splitter
New graphics
Flared fenders
Intakes on rear fenders
Carbon hood
Extensive use of CF and Aluminum
Possible PDK option optimised for the track
More extensive weight-loss
Acceleration biased gearing
That's all quite fun - but 100% total wild speculation. Here is what the car could possibly have.

The RSR engine would not survive non-race use - they have to be rebuilt after something like 65 hours, and at a massive cost.

500 cars and it will have a 4.0L engine and 500 bhp
Dear lord.. give me strength 500 cars and it will have a 4.0L engine and 500 bhp
It's this sort of thing that really turns me off a brand. Reminds me of lotus bringing out an elise special edition every other fortnight complete with a newfangled childish paintjob and a set of twin matching alcantara willy warmers. Everything is so aggressively capitalistic these days, the big brands have to alter what's the 'latest and greatest' almost on a monthly basis just to screw the world for every single penny that it posseses.
It also reminds me of my PH thread earlier in the year how the RS isn't a true RS anymore. Two RS versions and two GT3 version just in the life of the '997' was bad enough IMO without milking and diluting and trivialising the Rennsport ideology to the point where it becomes nothing more than just another chavved-up 'stuff magazine' centrefold.
Until something convinces me otherwise, IMO the glory days ended with the 996 GT3RS.

It is perhaps a bit harsh to speak of the RS ideology being diluted when an essentially standard Gen2 RS came 13th overall in the Nurburgring 24 hour race, which must surely count as one of, if not the most demanding in the world.Cheers
