997 GT3rs Limited Edition coming?
Discussion
When I was at the OPC yesterday they claimed to have no knowledge of such a car - other than from PH Forums and elsewhere. They 'claimed' that no-one in the PGB system knew anything about it.
But they might have been economical with the truth. I mean I know car dealers are always straight and honest...
...my inside track tells me it will be here in September

I bet if you offer a deposit they would gladly take it off you!!!
(Not that it would guarantee you a car if it was produced)
not allowed to take a deposit, but will a letter of intent - my OPC also feigned no knowledge - the rumour made it to EVO this month. according to my pal who is the editor of a car mag, it will happen and it will be badged RSR, but again he can't actually get Porsche to confirm it as such. (Not that it would guarantee you a car if it was produced)

This German magazine also reports that the car will be built immediately after this year's summer shutdown. 500HP, 4.0L, lots of carbon to reduce weight. Probably limited to 500 units like the GT2RS has been. Rumoured price in Germany is 200k Euro, which is circa 50k Euro more than the "normal" GT3RS.

Hmm... The shutdown is done to re-tool for the next model i.e. 991. If they build this car then, then they won't be able to re-tool!This German magazine also reports that the car will be built immediately after this year's summer shutdown. 500HP, 4.0L, lots of carbon to reduce weight. Call me a tool please...
haha.....RSR. what a pile of old horlicks. total travesty that manages to even eclipse using the R on the cayman unless it looks exactly like a proper one.

im seriously hoping all this internet chat is way off the mark, only time will tell on that. regardless im done with porsche for anything other than motorsport for the forseable future, that interview with the head honcho over the future was the final nail for me not that they care much. theres a billion people in the new markets lining up to replace us.

Spoke to a very reliable source today and apparently a GT3RSR will be coming out, BUT this will be a non-road legal use car; ie will only be made for circuits/private use.
This actually sounds far more logical than other ideas i've read on this thread. Even though Porsche are capable of anything, I think they'd really be shooting themselves in the foot if they launch a 997 successor to a Gen2 GT3RS as this model would lose its credibility for future GT3rs's if it kept on being replaced...

Er, there has been a 997 GT3RSR racing for years. The latest evolution is racing this weekend at Sebring. This actually sounds far more logical than other ideas i've read on this thread. The 4.0 will be road legal and it is coming. In Germany, there is a lot more info about it. God, a guy who I know, knows one of the test drivers for Porsche, and he was testing the car last year. It's here guys, 100% guaranteed.
Let's not get sentimental about the Gen2 GT3RS (I have one actually). Porsche will not be worried about what people like me think, as without doubt every single 4.0 will be snapped up ultra-quick, and I'll wager that most of those people with LOI's in on the new 4.0, will be owners of the current 3.8 model - like me.
It's just ongoing progression, evolution or whatever you want to call it. Without it, we'd all still be driving 911 2.0's.
I don't think people with 3.8's need to be worried anyway, as most 4.0's will be squirrelled away in garages and collections - rarely to see the light of day, let alone a track. I know certainly if I get one, i'll keep the 3.8 for using and having fun in and will put the 4.0 away for very occasional road use.
If anyone genuinely believes that the 4.0 isn't coming and isn't going to be road legal, then here and now, i'll put up a 5k bet to say otherwise. Any takers?

"The rumor is a brand new Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0-liter six-cylinder engine that should substantially help to boost power to around 500 hp. This means the engine will have a 200 cc increase over the standard GT3 RS reported that at least 50 hp produce more. In essence, this engine will be almost identical if the motor used in the GT3 RSR race car, but without limiting throttle breathing, the GT3 RS are all 4.0 min more power and torque while traveling for a heart Stop 9000 rpm.
Porsche finally seems excited about this car one of his best ever far the first reports about the car on water so back in September, and we even have a spy shot of it. However, the very first press release of the GT3 RS is 4.0 expected on 7 Published April, with production starting in late May
Currently, there is no indication of the price, but it is expected to slot between the GT3 RS and GT2 RS and there a price tag between the two. This may mean that you have to spend about $ 180,000. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that the GT3 RS is 4.0 limited to only 500 pieces worldwide, so if you are interested, you should put your head down to your local dealer for Porsche, as this in a flash for sale."
