I heard this from a reliable source before ordering my .2 RS

Given the GT2RS, I wouldn't be surprised if another LE Porsche comes to market.

I seriously have my doubts... IMO, if they did release this, I would have to say all 97RS owners have been given a raw deal.

What, like Gen 2 Turbo owners did when the Turbo S was launched?
Yes, similar... and all the hype about the GT2 aswell

Ok, you could say a 2nd generation, but 3rd is starting to take the ....

But the GTS doesn't diminish the performance of the C2S or the TurboS the Turbo nor the GT2RS the performance of the GT2 so the GT3RS will still be a great car just not the best...It's not owning the best 911 that will hurt some, but the car on your drive is still the same as it was yesterday surely?

Porsche do have a history of doing these things though,& if you imagine something along the lines of a gt3r for the road with all the arches, massive rear wing & no carpet & caged interior would really play to the Porsche nuts out here.
However with modern rules on homolagation could they actually do this?
Here's hoping they make it something really special

I agree, but it's a bit stty for some that have "JUST" picked up their Gen2 models, I mean it's only been "2 MINUTES"

I'm not saying that Porsche could not do 500bhp from 4 litres ... but Manthey get 475bhp from 4.1 litres and they are pretty much leading edge (and have very strong links with the factory, of course). To get 500 I think they'd need to do more than a little bit of tweaking - surely it would make more sense to do this for the next major model (998 or whatever) rather than now?

true, but it's not like .2 rs' are selling under list at the moment.
From my experience of Porsche if they do indeed produce this they could easily ask their dealers to get in touch with rs owners & ask them if they'd like to purchase. If they did do that owners would have a few months to move their cars on.
Even if they didn't do this I can't see it making the .2rs drop a massive amount of money.

Sounds like a lovely bit of kit... If you didn't just fork-out and wait for a .2 RS!

I called my OPC and they have no inkling of this but promised to get back to me. I can't imagine this is the real deal, squeezing a 4.0 litres GT1 block into the back is difficult apparently, as is getting 500 bhp out of a NA 4.0 lump. Plus it all sounds a bit improbable so soon after the release of the 'ultimate' 997 in the GT2RS. I'm still interested though, I'd have one in a heartbeat.

Surely if it is a GT1 block then it will have the same external dimensions. The two key limitations would be whether it could be bored out to that volume effectively, I can't imagine they would want to have a new crank. And if they have a 4.1l car in cup races then the answer would be yes. The other key limitation, and a more problematic one, is effective cooling. This may be a bigger issue.

I will give my DP a call and see what he has to say!

Totally - my questions were intended to be rhetorical given the earlier post saying a 4.0l GT1 engine 'would be difficult to fit' biggrin

Why? If it is limited to 500 then they will surely all have been presold to existing customers (most likely ones who were very early in the queue for the 997.2GT3RS) before it is announced much like the GT2RS anyway...?

imho the gt1 block will be obsolete next generation.it is no longer used on turbos (yes i know they had to do this to fit pdk but)and the gt3 models are next.hence maybe able to screw more power out of dfi engine.

Being one of those who were very early in the queue I am still waiting for my invite smile
