Are many people speccing Air-Suspension?
i thought it was a must have option on Cayenne ?
Mmmm, there's a few without it, and as garyhun pointed out - on 21" wheels... it could be worth having. Just wondered if it is *really* essential for road use?
I've now had the chance to try one without PASM/air and it only confirms my previous comments. With 18" and 19" wheels there is a lot of rubber on the tires and while PASM/air is nice I wouldn't describe it as essential. The ride is perfectly comfortable. With 20" wheels I would say it's highly desireable; brakes are essential;-), but not critical from a comfort, performance perspective. resale etc, is another matter.

Aside from that, and the lack of the automatic tailgate (which owners do say is a must), it's a good spec.
Are you ghey?
I think it's a pretty important feature for two reasons. Firstly there is no rear hatch like the old model or many estate cars. Secondly the tailgate is very high which creates problems for smaller people and in tight car parks. With the electric tailgate you can adjust the opening height. Additionally I'd say that in a car that specced in the GBP 50-65k region it's not a particularly expensive option.

Anyone know if the new model scrubs off tyres like the old one does?

I got the £1000 20" Michelins to last 8,000 miles on the 957.
I'd say tire wear compared to our old M5 is quite reasonable, in the order of 1-2mm in 6500km. Visually they appeared to be wearing fairly evenly front and back when I put the winters on.

I forgot to measure the tread depth when I collected the car but I've emailed Yokohama to establish the amount of rubber the 20" N spec Advan Sport XL have when supplied to Porsche.

I'll get you something more concrete in the next couple of weeks if you like. With relatively modest wear it's hard to be sure without measuring them properly.

Friend of mine has just taken delivery of a new hi-spec Diesel and went out in it last night.

Thought it was absolutely fantastic. Great engine - smooth, powerful and apparently did 34mpg on first tankful.

Loved all the toys. Dynamic headlamps are super at night. Power hatch is a must have. Paddle-shifs also - much better than the switches and great for flicking up and down the box on twisty routes. This one had air/pasm/20"/servotonic and it drives quite unlike any SUV I've ever been in - remarkable balance between luxury and sporting. Like the new PCM and this one had the TV with rear camera - very clever even at night. Whole cabin is very classy and driving position near faultless.

Criticsms? I'm struggling. Particularly love the new looks - much classier.
100% agree on the Porsche Dynamic Lighting System. I was super impressed with BMW's adaptive Kurvenlicht, but PDLS takes it on in a big way. I'm particularly impressed with the range adjustment and reaction speed.

Not so sure about the paddles though. In principle they are great, but you loose the multifunction capability, which on a daily driver is desirable as it gives almost universal access to PCM. On a sports car it would be a simple choice, but on a SUV it's tougher.

My missus is a small lady too, hasn't been a problem with the x5, even with a baby in a pram

Surely a sturdy box kept in the boot to be used as required would be cheaper?
Err, buy a normal estate/touring?

Got a Diesel for the weekend, don't want to give it back

Being in a 4x4 on normal tyres rather than run flats is just a revelation, ride is so much better than my X6, but it still handles too, front end is fantastic.

Thought the 8 speed box was PDK, but found out it's a normal auto, but if you'd have told me it was pdk, I'd still believed you, it's much sharper than the X6.

Engine sounds like a V6, rather than a rough diesel, not quite as grunty as my X6, but low down pull seems much more instant, think it's very well tuned to the gearbox.

Stop start tech is very clever, never knew what it was until I stop at some lights, then the engine died, I was like WTF ?, the. Cuts straight back in whe you take your foot off the brake.

There's a facelift coming next year already apparently, so hope to order one for then.

I very much doubt that - normal run is 3-4 years before 'facelifts'. Even when the old one was badly received at launch, there were lots of rumours about Porsche rushing through a 'facelift', but it still took several years.

However, I did hear there will be some optional styling kits from next year.

And you were impressed with the ride on 21" rims? Now that IS impressive - or does it tell you more about how bad the run flats on BMW's are?

Anyone tuned one of these? See there are kits from RUF and Techart as well as the usual suspects.

I had to order my current DD (RR TDV8) last January when the new Cayenne wasn't ready. Fancy a Cayenne Diesel but it needs enough shove. Must borrow Silverstone's demo.

At last got to drive one around Guildford and Farnham, including the snow....coped admirably in that, no prob, plenty of grunt, quiet; sport suspension jiggly but boy it goes around corners, comfort nice for the dual carriageways, but.........switches not easy to use, guess that would come with time -Mrs Melv managed to knock the cruise when indicating more than a few times, fiddly rear wash/wipe button, high central console made it seem smaller, seemed cold in the back -is there a sep heater control? Feels a lot smaller on the inside, more car like than 4x4's we are used to........

Unfortunatley rather underwhelmed, and, dissapointed I guess!! frown Brand loyalty and all that..........and she prefers the Range Rover.........

I've got a RR TDV8. The switchgear is fine and the back's nice and warm with it's own controls for AC, seat heat etc. Your missus will like it but it corners like a jelly and goes like a Micra. Be careful about what you really want, sounds like a Cayenne is not for you?

It will all depend what you are used to? If you have come from a typical 4x4 then the allroad will seem cramped and low.

Mine's the 3.6 and is a bit gutless. I've not tried the new 4.4 but imagine its a lot better.
