Yeah, I think an LOI for the next gen will be going into local OPC, with the proviso that it mustn't be 1 inch longer or higher (garage), and not PDK.

Just picked up my new Diesel S, 3 years ago I purchased the V6D as there was no option at the time for the V8D.

Oh my god - what an amazing car! before the V6 D had a GTS and honestly the V8D is far more fun to drive than even the GTS!!

If you're at all swithering between the V6 and the V8 stop, get the V8!!!

I've just test driven the new V6 diesel and also the S V8 diesel. The V6 is all the car you would ever need, quick, ultra refined nice sounding motor, a cracking all round car. BUT the V8 was a laugh out loud put a huge grin on your face comedy hot rod car, lovely V8 waffle noise and very very fast, you can just waft along on a huge mountain of effortless torque (kind of car that's so enjoyable makes you feel special). Fair old price difference but the V8 is just so desirable.

Couple of observations..... The V6 was on PASM with 21's and it felt a bit like driving a car with huge wheels, not a deal breaker but noticeable. The V8 had air suspension on 21's and that seemed to ride and steer noticeably better - didn't seem to feel like it was on such big wheels - difficult to describe, not a tram-lining type feel in the V6 but you could feel the suspension and steering jigger around a bit because of the 21's, the air suspension felt fine in comparison. Only a half hour drive in each car so maybe a bit unfair to make too much of an assumption....

Panoramic roof worked really well on the car, well worth it. The V6 had a plastic dash with black piano wood - plastics were very high quality and looked great. V8 had full leather which certainly felt more special, but if trying to keep the cost sensible the plastic dash looked fine. The V8 had the Burmeister stereo which was a bit disappointing - expected to be blown away by the sound quality, it was very good but not properly special as you would expect. The V6 had the Bose system which was very good - again not brilliant but very good - the Harmon Kardon in my BMW for sound quality and bass is far superior for a lot less money than the Porsche systems - come on Porsche sort out your hi end sound systems.

Seats - both cars has the standard seats which are substantially bolstered and very comfortable. The sports seats look the nuts but in reality not sure if they would be any more comfortable. Overall the new Cayenne is a very polished competent great all rounder - very impressed....

Anyway tempted to pull the trigger on a V8 diesel but just heard Porsche are temporally pulling it out of production due to emissions and a revised cleaned up V8 diesel will be released later this year (hopefully with even more power and better economy) - does anybody know details about the new engine or this situation with the V8S and the revised V8? I was concerned Porsche might pull the V8 diesel and replace the S with a more powerful V6 which would be a shame as the V8 noise makes the S so much more special....

Porsche seem to prefer staying behind Audi as far as the diesel engines go so no guarentee the Porsches get decent diesels. They seem to prefer to be cutting edge on the petrols.

Audi have already released the EU6 4.2TDI in the A8 with 385PS.
I guess the facelift S Diesel will be getting this then, and the next gen Cayenne will probably pick up the new 4.0 litre V8 presently being tested in the forthcoming Audi SQ7.

At which point the V6 Diesel will hopefully get the 300hp engine which presently sits in the Panamera Diesel.

When do we expect the next update of the Cayenne to be released, please? Is it next year or not until 2017?

My local OPC reckons September'ish 2016 (MY 2017).

Speaking to an OPC, they reckon Diesel S is definitely being replaced, but didn't know if it would be V8 powered or V6 - similar to the S petrols in panamera and cayenne which downsized. As for the 300hp diesel V6 (that's in the Panamera), apparently that isn't EU6 either?!

I'm surprised that the next-gen Cayenne could be due tail end of 2016.... Usually they go with 7 year cycles don't they? 4 years of gen1, then 3 years of gen 2?

It does seem a little soon, but then it doesn't take long these days with CAD and modern manufacturing processes, and don't forget the platform already exists (the new Q7).

There never seems to be many months pass by from when the first artists impressions appear in the motoring press, to the test mules being 'scooped' in California and the North Loop, to the deliberately 'leaked' photos emerging before the official unveiling at the next available Motor show.

That seems to be the usual gestation cycle for a new model these days.

That's exactly my thoughts, it happens as regular as clockwork.
The only thing that is certain is that people always bang on about it coming earlier than it will.
Next Cayenne is tail end of 2017, so MY 2018

Had my car a few weeks now, totally blown away by it. The sound from the V8 is incredible. Sounds like an American muscle car. Much better on fuel than expected too.

Heard that this engine is going to be discontinued as it doesn't meet next years EU6 emissions. Anyone know what it will be replaced with ??

Great choice. Same wheels on ours.

Since Audi have the twin tubro v8 D Euro6 compliant IIRC, I see no reason for Porsche not to use that tbh.

The v8d has already been discontinued, I managed to find an unreg new one so I bought it, pickup on Friday. Had one before in the pre facelift and it's by far the best unit for the cayenne with that monster torque.

It is, the one in the A8 is the same lump as the Cayenne's but with a few mods to make it EU6.

It has the same 4134cc, same 380 bhp and same 850 Nm torque, but I believe it needs Ad Blue to bring its NOx levels down and reduce it's CO2 by 12 to 197g/km.

This would probably explain why the 100 litre fuel tank is no longer an option on the Cayenne configurator - they need the space for an Ad Blue tank, and the pulling of the S Diesel this summer must be to allow a pause while they make the necessary production line changes before reintroducing it.

Has anyone got a facelift V6 Diesel..have they Ad Blue'd it to magically make it EU6..?

ETA...just had a look on YouTube and the Toureg's AdBlue tank sits in the spare wheel well (the collapsible spare still fits), so the lack of 100litre fuel tank must be for another reason.

Hi G,
its 100% not being replaced in the UK, from Sep 15, it will be like the Mcann...you just have to top it up every 5k miles with blue...
