I called in and took one for a test drive on Saturday. Fell in love with it. I have a 3.0 d X5, but this was in a different class.

Dealer told me delivery time of 12-14 weeks.

Once you start adding the toys it came in at c£55k, which is actually what the X5 cost new.
Ask the dealer to put that delivery in writing. I bet they won't. If they do then please let me know the dealer as I will use them smile
He did tell me that they had 7 (I think) out the back ready for delivery. They were waiting for 2011 to register them or something.
But if you ordered a new car today, you would have it in 12-14 weeks AND they would put that in writing? If so, name that dealer please!

I placed my order begin of August for a Cayenne Diesel, and got the car end of October.
Very happy with the diesel version, orginally went into buy the V8 version. But after driving the diesel was very impressed on how quick and smooth it drives. The handling in sport mode is unreal.

I must admit we didn't really get into the semantics of the deal!
Would prefer not to name in case salesman thinks he's got a sale!

I wonder if the VW Touareg equivalent is experiencing the same level of demand.

Most VAG cars are on tremendous leadtimes.

The Touareg and Cayenne share a similar platform and some running gear, but the Cayenne is developed at Weissach with Porsche DNA for a more prestige/sporting market. You can save money by getting a Touareg, but it's not the same car.

Was a different class on some aspects or just as an overall package? Is your X5 an Msport one? I've had an old shape Cayenne and liked it a lot. We now have a twin turbo diesel X5 Msport, my only complaint about the X5 is how harsh the suspension is over bumps, otherwise I'd say the X5 is a better car than the old Cayenne, albeit I appreciate the new Cayenne is supposed to be quite a bit better than the previous model. How did it compare with the single turbo X5 for grunt? I'd be worried that the Cayennes Audi 3 litre lump would be a bit lacking compared with the twin turbo Beemer diesel.

Reason for asking all of this is that the Mrs still hankers after her old Cayenne so a new shape one may come back onto the horizon at some point in the future!

I test drove a new X5 with 20 inch wheel upgrade and the ride was shocking and totally ruined the whole car for me!

We've got the 20's and have to say the harsh ride puts a bit of a dampner on an otherwise excellent package

It's not the suspension that's the problem, it's the bloody run flat tyres that BMW insists on using, the sidewalls
Are nearly 2 inches thick of solid rubber !

Drove a Cayenne Hybrid the other week, and the smoothness and quietness of the ride was simply a world apart from What I've been used to.

I've had 2 X5's and now on an X6, loved them all, apart from the ride quality due to these rock hard tyres, it's enough to make me look elsewhere for next time, I cant tke them anymore.

I only drove the X5 for about 10 miles and that was more than enough to put me right off!

It's the only diesel car I've ever driven that I liked and I liked it a lot. I'd even say it felt slightly better than the 4.8s on the Porsche track.

I wouldn't want the Cayenne Turbo as a family hauler, it's far too eager and goes through tyres like nothing else.

The engine is VERY smooth and very punchy. I had a few opportunities on my test drive to really floor it from 30 and I was never less than amazed at the power delivery. This thing can really move and is such a wonderful relaxing place to be all at the same time.

I have been driving RR product for over 20 years. I am now on my 6th Sport. Brought my wife a Cayenne diesel last week. Have to say Porsche have move the game on big time.

In all areas it wipes the floor with the Sport. The handling in sport mode is from another place. There engine is so good, I initially thought they had registered the wrong car and gave me a V8 instead.
