A couple of old sayings -
Good things are worth waiting for – TRUE
First Impressions Don’t Count – NOT TRUE

I have a big smile on my face today. I only ever had a test drive before ordering and liked the car a lot but having owned and driven for just one day, I love it. Handling is, IMO, sensationally good for a car of it’s size and better than some sports cars I have driven in the past.

I was a little hesitant about ordering when I heard that the new Audi biTurbo diesel may be an option in the near future and wondered if it might be worth waiting. Glad I didn’t as I can’t imagine I will ever need more power than this car has already.

A great car to drive but at the moment just sitting in it and taking in the great interior puts a smile on my face and the ease of use of the new PCM is superb.

The photo isn’t too exciting but I’ll put up the ‘proof’ when I have a moment.

Only a minor issue but the only criticism I have to date is that there is a fair amount of reflection of the dashboard in the windscreen when it’s sunny. (Can’t find a way to alter that through the multi-function system! LOL)

I see Audi are offering the biTurbo diesel engine in the Q5 from early 2013 and calling it an SQ5. I wonder how long it will be before the biTurbo appears in the Cayenne.

Will happen sooner rather than later I guess although I can't see Porsche having both the 4.2 V8 diesel as well as the biTurbo diesel units so I wouldn't be surprised if they ditch the V8 and have the biTurbo in the Cayenne Diesel S.

When you are just about to sign off the final spec it is slightly irritating to know that the highly acclaimed new biTurbo engine could be about to make an appearance but I guess there is always something new on the horizon and you have to place your bets at some point. I will console myself that when it does come out it will probably be much more expensive otherwise they won't be able to sell any of the higher performance (and higher priced) petrol versions.
I asked this question over and over to my OPC for the last couple of months. Answer back from Germany was that the Diesel S wil be a V8 and the biturbo will go into the new Macan.

The main point of the Cayenne Diesel is high MPG, I think a V8 diesel would contradict that. The biturbo is best of both worlds. So I don't really understand what Porsche are thinking here especially as the V8 will be at least £10k more (as per the Audi lineup).

My Cayenne Diesel is coming mid-Oct so they better not change the diesel S to a biturbo just after!

While not wanting to turn this into a restaurant review site I have to agree. It is my favourite restaurant in the whole world on a sunny day. Being able to sit on the edge of the river in glorious and peaceful surroundings and enjoy a drink or a whole (exceptionally good quality) meal is heaven. If anyone lives within reach and hasn't tried it, it is magical place on a sunny day.
Haven't been back since John and Julia left the restaurant. Sad as I had my wedding reception there and use to revisit very regularly.

My Cayenne Porsche Silver Experience day was also very enjoyable. Off-road capabilities beggers belief, and I was lapping boxsters and 911s on the handling circuit over and over (ok so I know the track very well from all my 997 events I have done there).

Started with a standard Cayenne Diesel and then swapped to the heavy spec one with air suspension. The handling difference was huge! So for anyone spec'ing a new Cayenne, the air suspension should be the first thing on the option list to tick. My OPC has a non-air but PASM demo car and that is ok but still nowhere near as good as air.

My spec:

  • White
  • Black standard interior
  • Deletion of model designation
  • SportDesign package with side skirts
  • Panoramic Roof System
  • Powerliftgate
  • Privacy glass
  • Reversing camera including ParkAssist front and rear
  • Bi-Xenon lighting system incl. Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS)
  • Air suspension with self-levelling and height adjustment incl. Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM)
  • 8-speed Tiptronic S inclusive Auto Start Stop function
  • 20 inch RS Spyder Design wheel
  • Wheel hub cover with full-colour Porsche Crest
  • Tyre-pressure monitoring system (TMS)
  • All-Season tyres for 20-inch one-piece alloy wheels
  • Floor mats
  • SportDesign steering wheel with paddles
  • Heated front seats
  • Sidebags rear
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Adaptive sports seats with comfort memory package
  • Porsche Communication Management (PCM) incl. navigation module
  • BOSE® Surround Sound System
  • Preparation for mobile phone
  • Universal audio interface
Really looking forward to getting this replacement for my old RS6 and not being able to visibly watch the fuel gauge go down in front of my very eyes!

For those fixated with CD fuel related stuff, ranours down to 25 miles to go on the range guage, it then went blank ie no range and we did another ~4 miles to the Shell station.
I brimmed it and managed to get exactly 100 litres in it (no sign of the fuel backing up in the intake pipe)
So either tank is bigger than 100 litres and/or range thingy is wonky FWIW YMMV etc

Hi Toby - good hear from you!
Don't all Porsche's have an extra 9L or something over the quoted capacity (which equates to 0 mile range on the dashboard)? I am sure I was told that by my OPC at some point in the past.

How's everyone getting on with their new Cayenne Diesels?

Mine recently went back to my OPC with a wobbly inside passenger door handle. The leather handle was coming away from the plastic base if that makes sense. A part had to be ordered from Germany I believe.

Just yesterday I noticed that the plastic casing that holds the two buttons for the "Powerliftgate" seems to be coming away from the surrounding carpet-like fabric.

Anyone else getting these kind of quality assurance issues? Don't get me wrong it's an incredible car but I don't really expect this to happen with Porsches...

2 years & 27,000 miles = no faults, niggles or problems.

(Compared to my Cayman which was back so many times I only had it for 2 weeks in the first 2 months.)

Hi all,
A newbie onboard!

Waiting for my delivery in early October. (My 1st Porsche). It's a big purchase for me, but after testing all of the competition extensively, there was no doubt that this is the car for me. In my opinion head and shoulders above anything in its class.

So after much deliberation my spec is as follows

Jet Black Metallic
Standard Black Interior
14 way comfort memory seats
Air Suspension
20" RS Spyders
Multi Function Steering Wheel
Tow Bar
Full Colour Porsche Crest Wheel Centers
PCM
Phone Module
Privacy Glass
Heated Seats
Auto Dimming Mirrors
Universal Audio interface
Collapsible Spare Wheel
All Season Tyres

Looking forward to letting you know my impressions

Also, 27,000 mls in 20 months. No issues I can recall. Excellent MPG, negligible service costs. Tyres are getting low (20" All Season) - probably need changing at 30k - will go for the same again. Terrific vehicle. Not a sports car but very clever and hard to fault really.

Anyone chipped their diesel?

Given my amazing experiences with Cargraphic on my Turbo, this would be the logical choice for me:

I was told that at the factory. The quoted capacities and the measurement excludes the 'reserve' which is usually at least 5 litres depending on the model.

Covered 2900 miles since April and the only minor niggle I have is a slight trim resonance (in an otherwise perfectly quiet cabin) at the base of the passenger door grab handle that occurs at around 55 mph. Whether this is related to your problem or not remains to be seen.

When you say 'two' buttons for the powerliftgate, I presume you mean the 'one' on the underside of the tailgate you press to close. Or do you mean the two buttons for the elec folding towbar..?
In either case, I've checked mine and they are fine at the moment.

I'm having a new windscreen fitted tomorrow morning thanks to an unrepairable chip from a guy with a poorly loaded trailer on the A43 while I was on my way back from the half-day at Silverstone the other week, so I shall be watching the fitters like a hawk.

And apart from the slight inherent desire for it to wander to the left slightly, everythings good here.

Found out more info...

Cargraphic have two options available:

OPTION A
Performance software re-map requiring re-flashing of the ECU. This will require removal of the ECU and the it sent to Cargraphic in Germany for programming. Gains of around 50Bhp/100Nm but the car will be off the road for at least a week.

£1205+vat Fitted

OPTION B
Performance ECU which plugs into the vehicles engine harness, with an adapter loom, and is a plug in and go solution. Advantage is that it can be removed for returning the vehicle to standard. Disadvantage is that it doesn't deliver quite as good performance gains around 45Bhp/90Nm.

£1512+vat Fitted

Hey Alex

So we're now talking 2 tonne 4X4s on forums, and even Mr 200+mph GuyR is joining in smile

My Cayenne (actually GF drives it, I still drive real Pork) has Techart turbo Kit 1 done by Tech 9 and sports their Expedio tuning which is a plug in/off module which basically adds a bit more fuel during the injection, they claim 600NM/290hp. It is a very smooth add on and I am very happy with it but I only got it since it matches the the other Techart stuff so when T9 eventually sell the CD for me they are standing behind it etc..... The best tuning for diesel is IMO the boxes sold by racechip.de, they are cheap and plug on/off and work great, I have had a couple on diesels over the years, I would highly recommend them.

Thanks for the heads up Toby. Much cheaper than CG!

The two buttons are on the right hand side of the underside of the tailgate. One of the buttons has a key symbol on it (I think it comes as part of the Porsche Entry and Drive package). This is separate from the rubber button you press to open the tailgate. The plastic casing that hold the buttons is loosening away from the fabric around it.

Will get it looked at when I book my car in for some winter wheels. Not exactly a big deal and absolutely love the car.

Bad luck re the windscreen. Yes, I would keep an eye on the door grab handle as they could well be related.

I see, that'll be why I only have one button then, I don't have Entry and Drive.

Had mine 10 months and done 10k miles. Absolutely no issues apart from some knob putting a deep scratch in the door in a car park. No note left of cpurse so I had to fork out for a respray of the door.

My car is just a year old, it needed 3 trips to the dealers when new, first one was to replace a faulty drivers seat motor and the a further two visits to get the seat memory to work, fortunately I work about quater of a mile from the dealer so it wasn't a major problem.
The only other issue is the car pulling to the left which seems to be not uncommon.
