If you were only doing small miles - say less than 8000 pa - would you be better off in a GTS?
Probably not when time to sell comes, but who knows

With 1 day to go on my Diesel before the spec is locked, I changed it to a Diesel S. For a torque junky like me 850Nm is just too tempting!

So looks like I will be getting the first Diesel S in the country - probably November smile

As far as I (and my OPC sales guys) can see, this new Diesel S in combination with the Diesel has made all petrol Cayennes obsolete! Why would anyone buy a Petrol one now?

Exactly my thinking too, there will always be the BIG Turbo junkies, but I can see diesels both types being the preference.

I'm surprised this is such new news.

I have an email from my OPC, last March, advising me that the V8 Diesel S would arrive late 2012, at an approx price premium of £10k over the V6, and would I like to order one?

The big news is the performance. Porsche have taken Audi's engine and turned it into a monster - and kept pretty good MPG! 850Nm torque is 150 more than the petrol Turbo and 34MPG is only 5 less than the V6 Diesel.

I would have to agree. The V6 diesel was probably the best real world Porsche anyway, but the V8 has well and truly put the seal on it.

And fair play to you for going for a Diesel S at the last minute. Are they really available for delivery in November - thats only six weeks away? Good for you if they are.

Jealous.

No UK OPC has been given their allocations yet from Germany. I am first on the list for OPC Reading (I should be, I got down there within an hour of the press releases!).

Sales guy thinks they will start Oct production, so Nov is a good bet.

I might go and put a deposit down just on the aural evidence alone. Fantastic.

I heard from Chiswick production is likely to start January? No one knows for sure.

That's from what they have read in the press. We are estimating the production start dates based upon previous models debuting at the Paris Motorshow...

Jan will come with a price hike!

Another tell tale sign is that a lot of the new options in the configurator say they are not available until Nov 2012. Thus there must be cars being built before then otherwise they wouldn't bother stating that!

EDIT: actually those dates have now gone. They were there yesterday morning...

Interesting to see where the new biTurbo diesel will fit in to all this.

I wonder how many will be reluctant to order the new Diesel S knowing that the biTurbo is lurking somewhere on the horizon. Having said that you have to make a decision at some point and can only go with what's available.

The Diesel S sure is going to be a mean machine. Personally, I am finding the current model has enough power for me and am already having difficulty staying within the everyday legal limits. With a Diesel S I would probably find myself using public transport with a couple of months.

This is the new Twin Turbo diesel.

The highest performing V8 turbo-diesel in its class, it is assisted by twin turbocharger units arranged in parallel – one for each bank of cylinders. Incoming air is passed through a shared filter and compressed by the turbine units. Its temperature is then reduced in the twin intercooler system before it is fed through to the engine.

Sorry, should have been more specific. I was referring to the new Audi Twin Turbo 3.0 litre V6 which is not as powerful as the Diesel S but should have even better fuel economy than the current 3.0 V6. Maybe it will be a straight replacement.

Personally I think we will see this facelift time, yes current V6 more than quick enough, however if the V8 was available when I ordered mine would have got the V8. Still over the moon with the V6

I'm sure the chap at Silverstone mentioned they were doing some gearbox alterations ready for introduction in early spring 2013, along with some other updates. I wonder if the alteration is to make it fit onto the new BiTDi V6 so the present lump can be dropped.
Trouble is, that would bring the performance figures of the new V6d awfully close to this new V8d, and bring better mpg with it, so choosing between the two will be a bloody nightmare.
If and when it does come, they'll probably give the V8 a few more horses at the same time just to redress the balance.
