Biturbo engine will go into the Macan, not into a Cayenne.

Why would Porsche give the Macan a 'better' engine that the Cayenne? Bit like allowing the Boxster to out perform the 911.

The biturbo engine is less HP and torque than the new V8 so it wouldn't out perform it. I would guess the biturbo will go into the Macan Diesel S - equivalent to Audi SQ5.

Also I don't think you can compare the Macan with the Cayenne - they are completely different markets. Cayenne is big family off road 4x4, Macan will be for small families/couples who don't go off road. I fully expect the performance of the Mecans to be better than the Cayennes as they will weight a lot less.

A bit of insider info from a German Porsche employee who's seen the actual Macan in the flesh - its nothing like the spy car shots. Much better looking!

Personally I think we will see this facelift time, yes current V6 more than quick enough, however if the V8 was available when I ordered mine would have got the V8. Still over the moon with the V6

I would probably have done the same. But next time around if it became a choice between the Diesel S and Diesel with the 3.0 V6 Twin turbo I would probably go for the 3.0 V6. Subject to Test drives and ability to control self-restraint.

I'm sure the chap at Silverstone mentioned they were doing some gearbox alterations ready for introduction in early spring 2013, along with some other updates. I wonder if the alteration is to make it fit onto the new BiTDi V6 so the present lump can be dropped.
Trouble is, that would bring the performance figures of the new V6d awfully close to this new V8d, and bring better mpg with it, so choosing between the two will be a bloody nightmare.
If and when it does come, they'll probably give the V8 a few more horses at the same time just to redress the balance.
We can only speculate but I would guess that is about right.

Be an interesting one for the marketing men to sort out.

Slightly off topic but do we have any guidelines as to the price of the Macan at launch?

Porsche are now getting so big and mainstream that its product range and future model portfolio is nearly as complex as Audi or BMW.

The new Macan will doubtless steal sales from the excellent Cayenne, but then there will be a mid-life 'facelift' Cayenne towards the end of 2013 to re-dress this.

The days of Porsche being a small, independent racing and sports car specialist are long gone. Great products, no doubt, but it's impossible to keep up. There'll always be something supposedly newer and better on the horizon.

With 1 day to go on my Diesel before the spec is locked, I changed it to a Diesel S. For a torque junky like me 850Nm is just too tempting!

So looks like I will be getting the first Diesel S in the country - probably November smile
Hi, are you 100% on this delivery timetable? I'm being told earliest build slot for customers is February as Dec and Jan build slots are for dealer demos only. Is that true?

Nobody is suggesting it will 'out' perform it. But it will sure run it close - don't forget the BiTDI will be quite a bit lighter.

And the size difference between the Macan and Cayenne is neither here nor there. Do you really think that all Cayenne owners have big families and take them off road? I don't think so.
And do you really believe that the Macan will be predominantly bought by 'small' families and/or couples that won't go off road?
Ditto.

I have been told that my OPC puts it's premium customers ahead of OPC demo car orders smile

All OPCs are still in a holding pattern for their Germany allocations though - should know more in the next day or so.

According to http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/scoop/porsche-ma...

Macan Petrol Turbo = twin-turbocharged V6 with around 370bhp and 400lb ft
Macan Diesel Turbo = Audi’s potent new 309bhp twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre V6
Macan Petrol S = 295bhp 3.6-litre V6
Macan Diesel S = 250bhp 3.0-litre V6
Macan Hybrid = ?
Macan Petrol = four-cylinder 220bhp 2.0-litre unit that should still be good for 0-62mph performance of 7.5sec and a 143mph top speed
Macan Diesel = four-cylinder 190bhp 2.0-litre turbo

Look forward to hearing what you're told. Am always amazed at the apparent lack of communication between Porsche and the UK dealers

I have a car coming from Chiswick and I have not had a date yet. I don't expect it this year but would be happy to see it soon. If my car was to be here in December I would take delivery as I do a lot of driving over Christmas. I'm not fussed that it would be registered as 2012.

Reading do get a good allocation. I heard there would be about 8 cars before Christmas. Sounds like your one of them, you sure they are getting you the v8? :-)
Odd that you have a build slot and I have the first car from Chiswick and they haven't said when mine will be and Chiswick is owned by Porsche. They have their build list for December and it wasn't on that.

What spec have you gone with?

Sorry, mine isnt a v8, it is the v6.

Black on Black. Kept the wheels standard to keep a nice ride, PCM/Nav, bum warmers. mutli-function wheel, Usb/ipod, Bluetooth and the compass waotsit to brighten up the dash.

I have initially gone for the 21" turbo 2 wheels but I'm considering the standard wheels and buying a copy of the turbo 2 wheels(prob 1250 including tyres). Ill save about 2000£ and have an extra set wheels/tyres. Similar spec, I'm going tow bar, roof rails and pan roof.

Had you not considered am ex demo and getting a saving? I spoke to a few for the v6 and I was seeing around 5k off price to start and very low miles.
