How much and how often does it need Adblu, and how much ? Can you DIY ?

ETA...just had a look on YouTube and the Toureg's AdBlue tank sits in the spare wheel uwell (the collapsible spare still fits), so the lack of 100litre fuel tank must be for another reason.

The tank is the same; the fill cut-off is just installed lower in the tank now ;-)

As my kids are getting bigger my 991 was getting too small. So the decision was made to sell it after Le Mans trip and buy a RS6 as the deals on it are so great although trying to test drive one was near impossible in North West. To make sure I was getting the best trade for my 991 I thought I would pop into local OPC. At this point I had ruled out Cayenne as another OPC Had told me that it was not possible to get a new Diesel V8.

Infact, Wilmslow had 2 new V8s in stock. So after one quick test drive deal was done for Black one. Sound is great and it is so quick for Diesel. Pick it up in 2 weeks.

Hi guys,

Long time lurker on the board and it's been very informative to say the least. I've decided to take the plunge and get the 3 litre diesel.

I've got some finance figures from Porsche for new and also figures if I plonked for a used (2012 model) and got a bank loan.

The repayments are fine but when I come to sell, I wonder which option will be better in terms of overall cost of ownership? I will probably keep the car for 2 to 3 years and then swap it for a newer version. From your experience, when you come to chop in the car, do you tend to have a decent amount of equity left in the car after taking account of the bubble payment as that's money that can go into the next car?

I'm looking to be as prudent as I can whilst still getting the car that I want.

Any advice from those more experienced than me warmly appreciated. Many thanks,

Ah, so they've limited the weight of fuel you can carry so the overall kerb weight of the vehicle won't be affected by a full tank of AdBlue.

Don't know either way yet. Can't imagine there won't be a high performance diesel in the range though.

So there will be lots of views on this - some options make them more saleable, but if you want the best return/lack of loss, then you shouuld not go mad.

Our 2012 we just traded in at just over 2 years old (only 20k on the clock) and we got 86% of the optioned price we paid for the car.... THis was keeping the spec fairly lean; PCM/Heated seats/Multi-functional steering/USB/and a couple of other bits.

Our new S has 22k of extras and wont hold its value anywhere near as well as that.

Hi all,

I'm sure this has been discussed before but I couldn't find a meaningful thread on Pistonheads. I just purchased a 2012 Cayenne V6 diesel and i'm trying to get more performance and better MPG out of the car. There are so many different aftermarket products out there claiming up to 40% increase in performance and 10-15% better fuel efficiency etc. My question is who do I go for are they truly as good as they claim? This is my 1st Diesel car ever so i guess I have plenty to learn.

DMS are a great bunch, used them many times. I did enquire about having my Cayenne V6 Diesel done but they advised they would have to open up the ECU to do it which I didn't want to do and Poesche don't need much excuse to invalidate a warranty claim so I have left mine standard.

Think you've done very well there to get 86% back after 2 years. Was it because you were trading in against a brand new V8S possibly combined with the 22k in extras? Which OPC offered you that?

Not sure what your pint is. Discounts are slim. The chap got 86%. End of so brilliant residual

Pints you get in the bar, points go over the bar ! Porsche are begining to churn out the Macans and Cayenne Diesels so a price point will be reached soon, IMHO.

Couple of Questions...

1. Car just approaching 3rd birthday and needing to make a decision about extended warranty - 2 years for bargain basement price of £1,690 inc Vat but plus cost of inspection check. Only do about 7.5k miles a year and be grateful for thoughts on value based on experience of others. I expect to keep car another year and maybe two.

2.22,000 miles and still same front brake pads (no warning light showing yet). I know it depends on type of driving but on average how long do they last?

Thanks for any advice/replies.

I think if it were a 997.1 or a Boxster/Cayman then you'd have to go for it.

But diesel Cayennes seem pretty reliable, you don't tend to hear many horror stories.
I'm on 43k miles and 3.3yrs, the original brake pads still haven't lit the dash up yet (although I'm expecting it in the next 6 or 7k), and it really hasn't missed a beat.


I took a little gamble and didn't bother buying the 3rd year warranty from new, saving just over a grand, and just bought separate breakdown cover for years 3 and 4.

Just bought one (Jan 2012 Cayenne 3.0 diesel) wife wanted something smaller and a bit nippier (relatively speaking as her current car is a Land Rover Discovery 4 **)


Not taken delivery so I can't comment on the drive yet - however coming from Land Rover/Audi I was shocked at the the huge list of options, many of which I would have considered as std items on a luxury SUV. The used car prices were all over the place (based on spec/options) with advice not to touch a non sat nav/air suspension car....


Car listed new at £45k std, plus £13k of extras...now 3 1/2 years old, sub 20k miles, no Porsche warranty - fully landed with me should be about 60% of fully optioned up list price.



  • little less power than Disco 4, lot less weight, 1.2 seconds faster to 62mph, 25 mph higher top speed, c40% better fuel economy, 2 (some would say 2.5) less seats....
