True but they want to sell them right? they don't want limited production or anything - Evoque starts at £28k. At £42k, you get the highest spec Evoque with a few choice options, same goes for the BMW X3.

You'd have to really want a Porsche to pay £42k base with no options - Especially if the Cayenne is only a bit more. Almost everybody would opt for a Cayenne over a Macan if they're too similarly priced as the Cayenne would look like the value for money option. IMHO even an £8k difference isn't enough of a gap.
Time will tell, I think there is a 8k difference on Audi's Q5 & Q7, lets see

Saj
True but at a much lower price point - Q5 is what? about £32k? Q7 about £40k? That's a reasonable gap (percentage wise) and even a well specced Q5 is unlikely to break the psychological £40k barrier.

Good shout on the Q5 though, Macan will be based on that. So currently, entry level Cayenne is about 12% higher priced than the Q7, so applying the same premium £36k is probably a good place to guess as the starting point.

But as you say, we shall see.

If it ends up looking anything like the spy images I don't think I'd be interested at any price but that's just me - beauty is in the eye of the beholder and anything with the name Porsche seems to sell.

I would speculate at a starting price just under 40k ending up at just under 50k with xtras for a reasonable spec. Top model with extras ending up at just under 75k.

We will see

Only £4k less than the entry price of a Cayenne? I doubt that very much, I expect it to start at about £35k with options taking it closer to £50k. Otherwise, you'd just buy a Cayenne surely?
If its much less than 40k (i.e £37.5k) then it will bethe cheapest pork on sale... I will stick with 40k, well ok £39995otr. We will know in a few months..

I'll stick with 50k with a decent spec and that with a decent engine not a 4 pot wheezing base model

I wouldn't be surprised if the BiTDI engine suddenly appeared in the Cayenne at the time of the Macan's release, along with an appropriate price increase to help maintain an 'acceptable' market price gap.

Anyway, just back from a week in Normandy in the Cayenne. It never missed a beat and returned (on the PCM) 34.5 mpg over 1500 miles.

And what a delight to be able to make proper use of cruise control and just drift along for ages on wonderfully smooth French motorways, legally at 80 mph. Why can't our motorways be like this...?! But thats for another thread.

Oh, and the price of Diesel in France is actually cheaper than French unleaded, and much cheaper than ours full stop. On the motorways diesel works out at around £1.27/litre, and at the Supermarches £1.12/litre - paradise! But thats for another thread as well.

I'm not looking forward to filling 100 litres - even if it does last longer!

I believe there's an option now that allows you to fill to 50 litres, or even 70 litres. Clever stuff smile

Lane Change Assist. Have found the mirrors to be good with no blind spots. There is often more to these options than there appears so would be interested in your review.

Lane Change Assist

Can be switched on & off from here

An option I glanced over a few times, but then got to see a short video online on Porsche’s site and got that box ticked. Although I think the salesman was not convinced by this option as he thought I would switch it off, well I have never thought of switching it off and I think it is very good, aids comfort & safety.

As cars approach in you blind spot on either side the indicators light up next to the mirrors

Drivers side

If you indicate and someone is your blind spot the lights flash

Works accurately everytime

My drive 6 days a week is along the A4 (3 lane carriageway) in West London during peak traffic.

When you drive other cars you have to be that much more aware

Thanks for the interesting review. I have to admit that I haven't found any blindspots on the door mirrors but I can well understand this option allows more relaxed driving if you spend a lot of time in heavy traffic.

A quick question concerning windscreen wipers and door mirrors.

1. I leave my windscreen wiper stalk at 'INT' (rain sensor option). When I start the car on a wet morning should the sensor automatically detect moisture on the windscreen and start operating if wet. At the moment it doesn't do that. I have to switch to position '0' then to 'INT'. Is that normal or is there a fault.

2. I understand the driver door mirrors only defrost when the rear window heater is turned on is that right (my previous vehicles have been by exterior temperature). Does anyone else find that when the door mirrors are wet it takes an annoyingly long time for them to dry off.

3. My rear windscreen blade does not wipe properly and leaves 2 arcs on the outer part of the blade of smeared water - is there a quick fix or is it a new blade?

Thanks folks

1. Mine does the same. It takes a moment to see the water droplets from a wet start.

2. Not tested mine yet.

3. Same as mine but in a different place. You can try bending the blade strip but because of the curved surface of the glass its a real case of trial and error and you could end up making it worse. But have a go anyway.

On an earlier report of Cayennes wandering to the left, I think it must be due to road camber sensitivity. Just spent a week in France and mine wandered slightly in the other direction.

Hi all. I am a 1000 miles and 2 weeks into my Porsche ownership. Still can't remove the grin from my face. What a joy to drive! Air Suspension is awesome, my seats are the most comfortable seats I've ever had. I could go on and on. Oh and I love the wheels :-)

Here is the pride and joy just after it was detailed a few days ago.

One question...... After heavy rain, when lifting the tailgate I get water fall onto the parcel shelf at both the left and right. Has anybody else had this happen?[url]

Very Nice, like the colour too!!

I have removed my parcel shelf, but will keep an eye out, I do know after washing I open the tailgate to dry and I get no water falling into boot, so keep an eye on it

Yes, I get the odd spot landing there, but it's not an issue really.

BTW, after washing the car (and lets be honest, with black, that's probably what you'll spend most of your time doing) and before you dry the tailgate, it's best to raise it for 5 mins while you dry elsewhere to let any trapped excess run away.

Enjoy.

PS - received my first car-park ding the other day. Cheers to whoever...!

Agreed the roof spoiler traps a lot of water, so after washing this gets left open

Ouch, but at least thats out the way!!!
