I never like these posts since for owners of 997 Turbos it shows how much your beloved machines are losing... but if you can afford the car then enjoy those 480+ horses, superb handling, beautiful lines and 4 up practicality as well as relatively cheap servicing - especially from indys

From my research and then purchase, and IMHO basically after the initial first year drop of around £20-30k depending on recession, demand, time of year, condition, mileage etc, the car loses around 10k per year and around additional £10k if you trade it in - all others things being equal. At the £40-£50k mark this seems to change to around £5k per year until it hits £20-£25k. The prices then seem to go down by £3ishk per year. At the 10 year mark, when its difficult to get a warranty, it either becomes a cult/collector car or just a dog eared money pit of a car.

So if you want a cheap one to run, wait until they are under 30k, slap on a warranty (or purchase for Hartec etc etc) and enjoy as a daily runner .. or if you want almost the latest and reasonable costs buy a 997.1 now - I have never seen them such good value! bounce (but sell before the year 9 mark...)

there are some 'dodgy' ones heading that way ... http://classifieds.pistonheads.com/classifieds/use...

If you like me and want virtually the latest 997.2 plus all gizmos buy one that's a year old for a private buyer and split the trade in loss - at least you get two year opc warranty and only require a minor service in the next three years. If you have a 111 point check you can slap on an additional 2 year warranty!

LOVE the idea of a Turbo for under 40K but there is no way I would spend that kind of money on a 6-7 year old car with 90+k miles on it!

Not too worried about the age but with you on the mileage - 50ishk miles is much better. 90k is psychologically too close to 100+k miles. I'm sure the engines will last for 200k but it would be difficult to sell on especially if over 100k and you would have problem putting a warranty on it.

Exactly why it's (relatively) cheap.

Agreed ... However ....

http://classifieds.pistonheads.com/classifieds/use... dodgy one @ 40k miles
http://classifieds.pistonheads.com/classifieds/use... @ 69k miles
http://classifieds.pistonheads.com/classifieds/use... @ 45k miles which after haggling would be under £40k

..etc. Definitely a very good time to buy that Porsche turbo 997.1 for under £40k!

Paragon have a 93k miler manual car for sale at £37,000.

Rash m's looks better value with half the mileage, Porsche warranty and only £3k more. (even though its a tip)

I've just deleted a number of recent off topic posts on this thread. Including mention of a threat of legal action against a PHer's joke comment. Can people please check their humour chip hasn't been badly remapped and keep the thread on track rather than spamming it with links to their/their mates car. This is a thread about £40k 997 turbos, the clue is in the title.

thanks

I wouldn't let miles put you off.
A good high miler if its a weekend car is ideal, and will no doubt had everything sorted.

The prices of all 997 turbo will drop in a similar manor to 996 turbo. So you will be able to get a nice low mileage car for under £35k at some point, don't let age stop you buy on condition.

I started the with one eye on the £40k 997 turbo, but decided to settle for a nice low mileage Slate Grey 2002 996 turbo (x50) for a lot less.

One things for sure they're both fantastic cars and great value for money as used buys.

Based on my experience a warranty is a must. My car was bought from an OPC. The car did not do very many miles in previous 2 years (less than 3K) and when i bought it some problems started, TPC system, starter motor, spolier control unit failure, radiators, engine mount dropped (engine out, new PU, paint) all since september 2011 - £8K of fixes Glad I had warranty. Imagine buying at 40k and not having the funds to fix real issues

I would not would have one without warranty and perhaps this is what will make them similar to 996 turbos in price at some stage?. In 6th year and just had a water pump and another radiator (think thats 5 radiators in 5 years). 2 clutch accumalators, a glued hose blew off under hard acceleration and it dropped all its coolant on the A414 (engine out to fix) , cloth headlining entangled in sunroof, faulty solenoid, faulty rear spoiler - nothing major but its probably been off the road 2 weeks in every year with a fault. Brand new loan car provided and cars been flat bedded back to Porsche on most occasions.

I've spent £4k on renewing warranty covering period from end of year 2 to end of year 6. I reckon not including recovery and new loan car delivered to door step the above faults list is easily what £10k +vat at an OPC ? Warranty your friend with one of these. Has anyone else used as a daily driver for say 5-6 years on the trot? If so what's your been like?
Ouch! Thats really surprising with all the faults? Bad luck or any common weakness's in the 997?

Anyone opt out of Warranties and lived to tell the tale? I'd like to move on to a 997 Turbo but seems theres mixed opinions on Warranties from OPC/porsche,etc?

Just about to completed 80k miles in my 997 TT, 60k in the last two years with no warranty and nothing catastrophic so far... (fingers very, very, very crossed).

Depend's previous owners abuse, how you store it and drive it! Lots of hard acceleration, gear changes, really using it on the corner's etc would put any performance in the garage on a frequent basis - if only for the maintenance bits.

I have never won out on the warranty game in 25 years of owning cars ... But there is always the first time ... So I will probably get the warranty for peace of mind .... Otherwise I will be driving like miss daisy and that will never do
