Can you get a bike rack on a tuscan?
Discussion
been a while but ive only just tried it as heading for scotland tomorrow
fits fine both wheels off and seat post out
i even managed to fit in
large suitcase
cycle back pack
bag with change of clothes so i can go straight to trail
tools just in case
and loads of random bits
if i had taken the handle bars off pretty confident i could also get the roof in

What would happen if another roof panel was modified to have a roof rack for 2 bikes inherently built into its very structure?
Would the mounting pounts with suitable re-inforcement be able to take the extra strain? It woudl be awesome to have a normal targa panel and then a bike rack panel for those odd trips where a coupld of bikes would be awesome.
Am I mental?

At speed, and because I wasn't fitting it properly, my near side retaining pin at the rear would 'let go' of the targa roof panel and that corner would lift a little.
It would go suddenly and I would cp myself every time.
Don't know if this happened to anyone else certainly neber heard of a targa actually completely popping out at speed as with the rear window ???

I've got the (expensive but worth it) machined alloy rear screen clips. I got butterfly topped bolts to hold them in too so not worry about losing the allen key etc. Well worth the £60+ as I've got to about 155 on the autobahn on the way down to the Italian lakes and it was fine!It would go suddenly and I would cp myself every time.

I have the spacers but as a Mk1 none of the later addendum so it was not happy up at that speed so I dropped back to around 130 ( it was deserted ). I've since added Nitrons and had the bushes done so would love another cheeky run to see what it was like. Oh and it was also loaded up with 2 weeks of luggage which may not have helped the front end lift.
So.. properly secured would the panel be secure really. I believe a panel could be made that if strapped to a bench would take the torque itself of the bikes moving about on whatever atatchement, I guess it could have a mini frame there as there is a little headroom to play with ( I am only 5'10" )

I'd thought about this a few times. I bought a 996 and a roofrack instead . A more realistic prospect - and one I am still tempted by - is some sort of arrangement that utilises a replacement boot lid with some sort of fixings bolted to it.Would the mounting pounts with suitable re-inforcement be able to take the extra strain? It woudl be awesome to have a normal targa panel and then a bike rack panel for those odd trips where a coupld of bikes would be awesome.
