cliffords said: Well first look tonight and some lateral thinking. I have taken the service bonnet off the main bonnet and the front grill (4 bolts only)
What that means is when the main bonnet is back on you can see the underside just about where the hinge will go.
My plan cut the bonnet away where the current bolt hole is. Loose fit the hinge to the car (front threaded bolt position) Pop bonnet on and fix at rear and centre.
Reach up underneath and mark hinge holes with a white marker, juggling hinge to get flattest fit.
A plan right now let’s see what the weekend brings. I'm out all day today but will update this thread tonight with a few pics/tips. Nick came up with a better way of getting the alignment right so will run through once I'm on my laptop later

Just to update my method so far with a few hours work on it today I have a flip bonet.
Well first look tonight and some lateral thinking.
I actually manged to get a 'G' clamp on each one , and carefully removing the bonet had the perfect template to drill the hinge, ie the hinge!
A plan right now lets see what the weekend brings with more fetteling.

I have my conversion nearly complete now, gas struts fitted and the bonnet opening nicely, though im not happy with the alignment yet, and it all has to come back off to paint under bonnet around the hinges.
Happy with all of the strut mounts, they have come out well, rubnuts worked excellently.
The large bonnet comes up and down well but there is a very slight twist, which was there before i started i think, around the section of the midway nuts and studs, stops the service bonnet sitting nicely without the nut still being present, i had to adjust it when the bonnet was bolted on to. The joys of handmade cars...
I did the same as Mr Chips and had everything loose and the bonnet sitting nicely with just the clips at the top of the bonnet done up, it worked well.

Me and a mate carried out the bonnet conversion on Saturday (Cheers Mark!!) It all works as it should (albeit with a few quirks!) but it wasn't without it's problems. I did take quite a few photos as I was doing the job and would be happy to post a some more with details explaining each step and some of the issues encountered. Unfortunately I don't know how to post more than one picture at a time - if someone can let me know I'll see what I can do over the next couple of days. Regards Paul
