I have a 2003 Tuscan.
My windscreen washer has decided not to pump any water to the windscreen. The wipers work fine, no sign of leakage. So I preume that the reservoir pump has given up the ghost or the electrical terminals are corroded. I have removed the main bonnet and the panel on the left front of the car, by the service bonnet stay and can see the top of the bottle, but how do you get to the pump?

Do you remove the pepperpot grill, does this give you better access to the washer bottle?

Cheers

I have now removed the service bonnet and undone the grill. But the 2 bolts that hold the water bottle in place are just going round and round!! I cannot manage to grab the end by the water bottle with a spanner as not much room. Any ideas how to remove the bolts?
Or any ideas what the problem might actually be?

Had a problem with my washers a few weeks ago.

I too thought that pump u/s or bottle had a leak and lost contents. However, with engine off, I could hear pump running - so proved that was OK.
I removed the headlight panel and found that the nrv in the pump dischsrge line had collapsed. I got a generic replacement from local auto factors and the job was a good'un.

IIRC, the hold down bolts for the reservoir/bottle could be accessed via the headlight hatch. I have the advantage of an opening main bonnet, but if you remove this and look at this area, the arrangement is fairly obvious for removal of reservoir.

I've had the same problem with the NRV, easy to fix as it is where the washer pipe appears from the inner wing before it crosses behind the radiator. Remove the input pipe to the NRV and try the washers- if water appears at the pipe then it is the NRV.

I presume that it is those two bolts on the left of the water reservoir that hold it in place. These are the two bolts that are just turning. Trying to get a spanner behind them is virtually impossible for me!! Unless here is a trick that somebody knows?

The bottle will just lift up and slide out of its bracket that holds it in. take off the rubber fill pipe first.

Thanks Toady, that is what was confusing me!! Got the thing out now. The pump was making no noise at all. NRV is ok.

I had similar issues with mine - no noise from the pump - so after taking everything apart and getting the pump out - yup, it was the pump!

Nick, already done. Richie C. updated it while I was out fixing mine. I then added the extra detail to the windscreen washer thread and updated the wiki to link it. I'm probably going to have a play with the wiki and organise it into sections to make it easier to read and find stuff. Keep those part numbers coming!

Phil, yes I saw when I checked the wiki after I had posted...Doh!

I'm not hugely computer savvy. I seem to remember mention of Ford part numbers for the boot solenoid ...and possibly the door items? Would be good to get these in the list?

Nick,

If you've got them, post them into the bottom of the wiki in plain text and I'll update the table.

Do you like the new look?

Bloomin weather...you must be doing same as me - getting a petrol 'fix' via the forums!!

Yes - new format is great!! Re: the heater matrix and blower: have a vague recollection that the blower is from a Peugeot 106, so might make sense that the matrix was from the same donor.

Although, when I had a leak on my matrix I had it re-cored for 90 quid at a local rad' repair place. Was able to drive the car to their workshop by joining inlet & outlet hoses with a bit of 1/2" copper pipe.

Bloomin' weather indeed. I'm going to have to go out to the garage in a minute and find something else to fix!
