You find it raspy with the cats out
I also found it raspy with the cats out, but did have straight through cans. I now have blueflame perforated cans which has got rid of the rasp.

Has anyone used under bonnet heatshielding to prevent the heat damage?

I've got some very small end cans on mine which stop the raspy noise without reducing the volume or bangs.

Yes I'm not a fan of the M3/saxo barry back box noise I get from mine when its driven hard with the cats out. If someone could make some silenced decats that would be great! But not seen any! I'm tempted to buy the ACT big bore system to eradicate it. Mine is an S though and doesn't have the small bullet silencers in the pipes that the standard pipes have.

Recently De-catted mine, between dyno power session and saw a 15BHP increase in power, the cats weren't damaged or blocked so was surprised to see that sort of gain without any mapping.
Doesn't sound a whole lot different, just adds more of a 'Bark', but im glad I done it. getting the CAT's out is a nightmare frown

Mine has the CCC cans and it's not raspy, a nice bass sound.

I've just fitted some standard cans and the rasp is much much less and the general note deeper/quieter!

I have standard cans and would confirm the deep note. Top end gets a bit ear splitting though.

I haven't got any to hand and working away from home at the moment. I'll see what I can do next weekend.

I think decat and half sleeved cans would be about right.

I agree re the noise - you can guarantee an increase and a change in tone / depth.

My Cerb was defatted and it stunk! Probably a modern day thing as we have all got used to cars with cats fitted but its definitely something to consider if you start your car in the garage, warm it thro in the winter, etc

Some cars can sound a bit tinny but others sound epic! It will be hard to tell until you do it I guess?

Decats fitted yesterday, the car runs a lot cooler now and it takes longer time for it to get to temp where the fans kick in.The noise i like and it is not that raspy, the backfires are mental though, they are more like small explosions.I havent had chance to open it up yet (to much traffic) so im just hoping it hasnt changed the power delivery in a negative way.

Fabricate some form of heatshield for above the manifold?
Thats effectively what the heat blanket on the underside of the bonnet will achieve with less heat radiation. But according Wong this isnt that effective either..
In addition too, maybe help reduce the heat the bonnet sees though..?

Obviously a lot of heat in the engine bay in general however..

The right choice is to decat her. In addition to the other benefits mentioned, it prevents her from sucking parts of the degrading cats back into the cylinders. This might happen on the overrun in high revs. Thar is why I decatted mine.

Just for the sake of cheering me up while I sit in an office about 800 miles from home and my Tuscan, here is a little sample of the decat/Powertech noise smile
