Anyone found a way around this please? Since adding a spoiler to the bootlid it's just too heavy for the strut to hold it open. Tired of resting it my head while trying to take the roof off and on..fill up petrol...etc.!

Thank you!

You can buy stronger struts, the gas pressure is specified in Newton Metres. If necessay increase the strut diameter. Only problem is you are putting more pressure on the attachment on the bodywork and the hinge. Never understand why Tuscan MK1 & MK2 Targas only have a strut on one side when a convertible has a strut either side, I guess its because the petrol filler is different.
Why not get a nice stainless strut whilst you are changing it ?

It doesnt take much of a puff of wind or be parked on a slope for the boot on my two strut Convertible to lower its self down.

Replace your struts then smile . They lose pressure after a while.

My Convertible ones are 650 Newton Metres and there are two of them. Not sure the spec for a single strut on a Targa , but I guess it also depends if the pivot points are different.

The standard Camloc strut is only 540NM, well the one I removed from my 06 Tuscan S is. Quiet surprising even later Tuscans Targas still only have one strut. Looks like the convertible has a different/better boot lid mounting as well, this must be to spread the load a bit.

Those hinges would sort out the problem I have with my current set up where the fibreglass has cracked around the insert that the strut is attached to on the boot lid. I can't seem to strengthen the area enough. Have actually ripped out the insert now to start again, so I have a nasty hole where it used to be. I wonder if they're a straight swap?

Thanks for all the info guys - the current new strut that was fitted is 540N - so I'm hoping replacing with a slightly higher rated strut will do the job, maybe this? - http://www.gasstruts.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=...

You need to try parking on a hill... Mine was fine on the flat only when I parked up at Chatsworth on the slope did I discover the boot would not stay open smile .

After a bit of googling, I *think* the later hinges with the built in struts are from a Ford Streetka.

Waiting on str8 six to get back to me on using the higher powered one - will get it fitted when they fit the nitrons/steering wheel! =)
