Out for a run and about 400 metres from the house bit of a stutter and now dead. The only driver who stopped to help a TVR driver !

So fuel pump is not priming and so far took out the relay and checked it , I think I got the right relay. The fuse number 30 , well that slot is empty ?? . I tried to clean up the terminals on the pump and with a multitester do not seem to be getting any power at the two terminals.

So to the help please.

What fuse number is it , Varley book says 30 but that slot is empty?

Is it the red/brown colour relay in the corner or another one ?

How do I test the power to pump, is it across the two terminals on the pump ?

Whats the little black unit next to the pump ?

Is there another thing I should check ?

Thanks in advance

David

Thank you
Seems like fuse is ok and I can feel the relay clicking.
How do I test the power to the pump ?

Thanks

Even without the engine running you should have a measurable momentary 12v pulse across the terminals to your fuel pump as it primes the system when you turn the ignition on / press the immobiliser, if your not getting that I would take a closer look at the relay as even if its clicking it may not be making proper contact.

The little black thing by the pump is just a suppressor to stop noise interference.

Ok
Just put 12v across the pump , the two connectors with the nuts on and the wires running to them.
Neither way round poss or negative is there any action.
I take it this leads me to a full fuel pump failure as the explanation.
The pump should run with power across the terminals yes ?

Thanks

Correct. A standard work around for duff relays etc in the fuel pump circuit is to take a live feed from a tail light. The rac etc do that to get people on the road.

Ok fuel pump is off the car and will not turn even direct to a battery so it is dead. with a new fuse I have 12v at the two wires when I turn on and prime key so thats good.
So any views on where to buy one, they seem expensive or a good alternative ?

Tuscan Parts wiki at the top of the Tuscan forum confirms your part number, I got mine from Camberley Auto Factors back in 2007. I'd advise giving your local branch a call and seeing what they can source. In the mean time, give your old one a smack with a hammer on the input shaft - it might be enough to free it and if it doesn't, you've lost nothing. Mine was seized along the shaft - if you can get a pair of grip on it and turn it, it may free up enough to get you out of trouble until you can source a new one.

Good shout Ben, but OP has tried 12V (from battery or other source so by-passing inertia-switch) direct to motor/pump and it still won't turn.

Looks like pump is fubar'd - I'd say any auto parts factors could source a Bosch or equivalent replacement pump (isn't it pacet that are big in fuel pump/tanks etc?).

Edited; Just checked Google and found this: From fuel pumps online http://www.fuelpumpsonline.co.uk/bosch-fuel-pump58...

Got the pump today did go for a Bosch one.

The number now I am told by Bosch is

Now I cant remember I have two wires one is yellow and has a black stripe and one is black solid.

I would presume the black one is earth, do you have a meter to check?
I'm quite sure the one with the suppressor is positive, which is closest to the chassis.

Pretty sure the solid black will be the earth.
Easy way to check is to put a test lamp on the yellow lucar connector with the other end to a (good)chassis earth and lamp should light up when you switch on ignition (usual cancel immobiliser).

All works but.....
Not fuel tight. The junction on the high pressure side weeps..
Anyone have any experience of this and making it right ?

On the origonal set up there was no washer on the nut side of the banjo, what do you think.
I have now tried with and without one and got it fairly tight , still weeps
Thanks
