With my engine out at the moment I've got the opportunity to replace the foil heat shield, which is looking tired

Anyone else out there done this? If so what brand did you use, do you have any pics of the finished work

Dave the trimmer, just posted the cut to shape bits noting what i wanted edging and what was to be left rear bulkhead is fiddly, but much tidier than the stuff i removed, though I'm sure it can't deaden sound as much but I've not noticed

he kinda laughed but did it for me. think it was £20 quid or something like that

so far its perfect.

I've never looked close at a tuscan one, but the tam bulkhead has a few curvy bits to deal with under the original padding

Zircotec do adhesive backed heat shield, which can apprently be safely folded 180 degrees its so thin. Does the padding in the original reduce cabin noise? will their be an increase using one of the adhesive types?

John have you used their heat shield roll, its a pretty good price! I could cover the whole car in their stuff vs a couple of feet of Zircotec biggrin

Is it as good as the original TVR stuff?

I fitted some "Lavamat" over the top of the original stuff (it was still in fairly good condition). I figured an extra layer wouldn't do any harm. Very easy to apply and has stayed stuck in place for over 2yrs. It is very very thin, so not sure actually how much it does, but the stats looked good!

I'm now thinking of putting it on the underside of the bonnet just to help protect against the paint cracking in the longer term.

Anyone who's done this remember how much sheet they used?

On the firewall it looks like it incorporates sound insulation in addition to the thermal barrier. Has anyone just replaced this with reflective material only? If so was there a difference in cabin noise?

I think its between these two..

I used this from ebay Aluminised Mat with some high density rockwall sound and heat insulation (this stuff is very dense like a slab and about 3cm thick it has to be cut with a bread knife or saw) the insulation was cut to the shape of the bulk head and then - I made a "pillow case" out of the mat which was stitched with high temperature kevlar thread. I then glued it in place. Cabin noise has been reduced a noticeable amount.

I also used it around the prop tunnel inside the cabin under the carpets.

Under felt for the carpets makes a much bigger difference for noise reduction but you do need to strip the interior to install it though the extra thickness can make it difficult to get the center console to sit properly though.

Has anyone just used any of the latest foil heat reflective material on the firewall that has no blanket behind it? Was there any discernible difference in cabin noise level.

I have. Removed the old glass fibre stuff and replaced with a fairly thin fabric heat shield.
See my post page 6.

Hi Martin,
Did you notice any elevated cabin noise over your last tuscan?

To be honest it's not a fair comparison as I now have no cats and a 4.3 from power. The noise from the gearbox is the most annoying noise now. As far an noise in the cabin, it perfectly acceptable.
