I'm new to the tuscan scene. I noticed at burgley tvr meet there were a couple of tuscans with bonnet mods . I e. Hinged and gas strut fittings. I will probably attempt to make a mod myself. But is there a mod out there thats a proven application? Cheers

The conversions I've seen from them have limited access. There's more effective methods like this

There are several TVR specialist who can do the conversion. S&D, who get very good reviews on here were the 'first', I believe, to offer same.

Walford - has done a very neat home conversion using hinges from a donor car.
The concern some folks had with some conversions were that the gas struts holding the main bonnet 'open' tended to be located such that you had to work "around" them if doing anything on the engine.

I used hinges supplied by Mr Chips (on here), sourced my own gas struts, stainless fixings and strut mounts.
With the help of a mate who had done GRP work before (to strengthen bonnet in way of hinge fixing), we had the job done over a week-end.

If you do a search on here for Tuscan bonnet mods, you should get quite a few threads. Read them, and see what suits. (Mr.Chips, B3NNL, myself and a few others have posted on what we did).

Good advice about searching for Bonnet threads - there are plenty.

Here's mine. Hinges came from Mr Chips too. I didn't go with gas struts, as I was worried about the load on a bonnet, that wasn't designed for it, even when in the closed position. The bonnet can be supported by either of the arms, giving open access to the side you want to get to. That said I tend to use both and just work around the supports. The choice is yours!

Be warned though - this mod does include reshaping the front end of the main bonnet (to allow it to pivot) so be very certain about what you want before making a start, or it could be quite costly to make right....

Front hinged bonnet, so would need to lift it really high to get un hindered access to all front services. Mid point fixings retained on main bonnet, so need to be able to lift service bonnet to remove them.

I have seen conversions that combine the two parts of the bonnet - I just prefer this way as it's reasonably close to the original, giving 'easy' access to the engine without having a two man lift every time I want to get in there.
