I'm just putting the last ancillaries back on the engine and haven't got a clue which plate or bracket tensions the power steering pump?

Can anyone post a picture of how a Mk 1 power steering pump is tensioned?

It's pretty much the last job before the engine goes back in the car....

Thanks in advance.

I could actually do that as I have a Saxo steering pump. What's involved in changing it over?

Do you need to run extra cables and buy mounting brackets, etc? Do you have to cut a new hole in the bonnet?

not sure which saxo it is, but you keep the ps fluid reservoir exactly as it is now
pull the relay from alt warning light

On the MK2/3 Tuscan the power steering pump supply is via a relay fed direct from the battery with a 60 amp fuse inline. The coil of the relay is supplied via the lambda supply.

this is to comply with the law, i pull mine from the alternator warning light, to give 40 amps less when cranking this appears to be the norm with motor sport stuff, as if the (small) battery is a bit low, last thing you want chiming in when you turn the key is 40 amp motor it also has the advantage of if you loose the alt belt, the steering goes heavy, so you dont run without a water pump for long

I can't find any specific steering pump pics, so if you sort it before the weekend could you post a shot. I've got to put all this back and rewire mine.

Thanks for the photo's. Do you know where these tensioning parts go in relation to the pump?

The top bracket in you picture is for the air conditioning compressor I believe. There is a similar bracket on the right hand side of the power steering pump between bracket and pulley to tension the power steering pump You can see it closely in my top pic above.

If you look at my old engine below you'll see the air con bracket on the left of the block

On the left side of the power steering mounting bracket you attach the alternator tensioner.

My pump should be back on tomorrow so I can do more shots if necessary or any other pics you need. It's a time consuming puzzle. I took loads of pics but none of the bits that I got stuck on.
