Tuscans on the Stelvio
Discussion
Just saying hello again if it was anyone on here that I met at the top of the Stelvio on 29th June?
I'd not seen another TVR all trip and suddenly there were three other blue Tuscs at the summit!
Unfortunately the weather was so foul we didn't get chance to talk much, (just compare EFI faults!) but I hope the rest of your trip went well, we had blast!

Hi Alan, it was great to meet you guys, if only briefly. We had a great day of driving after we left you doing several passes including the gavia, which is crazy!! When we got back to stelvio and started the climb the rain turned to snow, but all 3 of us managed to make it to the car park some how. Will post pictures as soon as i have uploaded them. The PHN boys were also at stevlio, even tho we didnt realise it at the time
Hi Alan and Martin,
best regards from here as well.
Good to see all Tuscans arrived home savely by now.
We drove several thousand miles and about 40 passes and there was no other
TVR we have seen, which is not unusual anyway on the continent.
While on top of the Stelvio we had quite some fun in guessing which type car was on its way up the Stelvio, we usually could not distinguish Beetles from Porsches, but we identified your Tuscan quite early and we could not believe it, as you arrived on the top, that it was in fact a Tuscan.
Shame about the weather that day.
It came even worse for us, when we somehow managed to climb the Stelvio in the snow that evening.
PS: Thanks for the lovely photos, Martin.

Wow I can't believe I didn't spot any of you guys.. I was there with PHN at the same time.. I very nearly took the Tuscan but opted for the M3 CSL at the last minute.. Would of loved to of seen the Tuscans together in the snow, Hope you all has fun.Griffithy, you must know the 2 Tuscans that were with us, both Austrian! Martin's and Heidi's cars.
Sagman, we had seen your cars as we tried to make our way through the snow and even popped down in the morning to say hello, but you were all gone. We only realised it was phn when we posted a photo on face book and bachi and Pete commented!
I have to put my hands up and say that I don't have the balls of steel, my other half caro is the one that piloted the car up stelvio....

Hi Martin / Griffithy, glad you're all back OK Looks like we were lucky with the weather as we just had the sleet in the morning – top effort getting back up in that lot! With the Bormio end shut after we left you we dropped back down north and headed round to our next stop in Parma before Ferrari/Lambo. We saw another TVR convoy at some services on the E45 and then didn't see another for the rest of our trip. 2400 miles in 6 days – haven't stopped grinning yet!
And you were right, the EFI fault cleared as soon as we lost some altitude, it doesn't like the sudden changes!
Again, no idea then PHN were there as well. Sorry we missed you, hope you had a cracking trip

I did it in October '11. Was ok on the way up but started to snow when we got to the top so we didn't stay too long. Checked the next evening when we got to Lake Garda on the webcams and it was completely covered in snow and closed so think we had a lucky escape.
Best advice, be prepared and plan ahead (check weather, online pass reports etc). Mountain weather can change very quickly at that altitude even in the summer months! Some great passes in that area but I wouldn't fancy doing them in whiteout/heavy fog.
Stelvio is worth doing for the drama but not the best in terms of actual driving IMO.

WTF with the snow, we are heading over there September. What is the weather going to be like then
Very good chance that it may already be closed for winter then.We are talking 2.800 meters.
But who knows.
