OK, my two'penn'orth.

If you're fairly close, then go and see it?
General condition of underside/chassis - check for replacement dampers/clutch(?), service history, bills etc - can give you a fair idea of how car has been treated.

If the vendor is willing, then perhaps suggest getting the car to a local TVR specialist and have them do the usual checks (compressions, leak down etc.) - and they should give a reasonable appraisal of engine condition.

If you are some distance from vendor, then you can only quiz the person on his comments etc. All IMHO.

Hi,
I'm in Bristol so if you were genuinely interested in the vehicle I could go and have a decent look over the car
and give you some detailed feedback before you made the trip across.
My concerns would lie around the limited runs it would have got being an Isle of Man car.
Happy to help though if you want. thumbup

I always lean towards the 'too good to be true' assumption on low milage cars, 10+ years old especially, my usual jumped to conclusion is that its spent most its life broken/in the garage hence never had chance to put the miles on it !! And from what i read with TVRs the more driven, the better - bought my Tuscan with 50k miles on it but put 1k on it no problems myself so far.. in for a new clutch etc now but thats my driving wink

But if you got the money to spend on repairs or your pretty handy yourself, id work to drive down that price and it could become a bargain.. or a money pit lol who knows with TVRs !! But i wish you good luck in your search - just dont rush and go see a couple was best advice i had..

Agree with Bill.
My '04 Tuscan S is now rolling past 66000. Been to Europe every summer in the past 5 year - only let me down once (couldn't get home) when clutch master cylinder failed in the middle of town during rush-hour!!

I maybe wrong but I reckon that car will cost you 10k within the 1st year of ownership

Same feeling I get. You will find driven, loved and sorted early examples at the same price. Factor in a rebuild, clutch, aftermarket suspension very quickly.

If it still has amber indicators it's not had attention lavished on it... At least that's what I think when I see them.

I agree with most of the comments above, although i think 10k might be a bit optimistic. I would budget 7k engine, 2k clutch and a good set of nitrons or something, plus the paint. Interior looks lovely and chassis should be a minter, wheels look lovely, although tuscan chassis were not like cerbs, chimaeras and griffs 98/99. Colour is marmite; looks like Aston Martin Green to me a bit of an old boys colour, had it on a Chimaera 500 in it and yes classy but not my cup of tea. Also the indicators ....

Anyway this reminds of a thread going back a few years when there was a "brand new cerbera" for sale with 900 miles on it, stuck around for years and had been in a collection. From memory it was rosso pearl and looked lovely but it was a speed 6 and you can guess what happened ....

The thread is quite epic by the way and i really felt for the guy who bought it although I am sure he has ended up with a lovely cerb.

That is one of the most ridiculous things I have read on these forums.

I thought I has slipped into some sort of parallel universe when I read that....

That would have to be the most mundane slip into a parallel universe possible.

Clearly giving personal opinion is sticking your neck out just a little too much on here.

It wouldn't surprise me if this turned up on Str8Six's website one day soon at £27995. They certainly seem to be pushing MK1 Tuscan prices and this car could be an ideal candidate for them.

I went and saw the car yesterday, nothing too in depth, but more a cursory glance over it.

Generally on the outside it's a relatively tidy looking car, wheels need a good refurb, but then don't we all. (tyres were good)

But you just know, you're going to spend money on the engine.....

...... and to be honest and fair to the guy in the showroom, he was very upfront about the fact that this was needed.

Overall though, not my cup of tea.

As regards to the sellers Hamilton Cars i bought my Chimaera from there 1 year ago and found them to be honest straightforward and the total purchase was a pleasant experience.

Dominic was looking after me and he knows his stuff, sold 100's of TVR over the years and went out his way writing letters to the DVLA to retrieve a private plate i had on retention and not paid the £25 fee for six years.

I also took the car back for a couple of minor things 6 months later and when arranging this had told him i had bought the silicone hoses and induction hoses and could he fit them.

When I arrived he gave me the news that his mechanic had called in sick with gout but Dominic said go and loose myself walking around Bristol and he would sort it out.

When i came back Dominic had changed his dress code and was working away in the engine. When finished i asked how much? His reply was you owe me nothing, which left me totally surprised. He then said you never messed me about on price when buying so a favor returned.

Big thumbs up to Hamilton cars from me.
