well, when i was looking for my Tuscan it was a deal breaker for me, I wanted to have and air con. Would have been not a big issue if it would not have been working, all can be fixed.
But not having and a retrofit would have been, so i thought, more expensive than fixing a not working one.

Ok, so now i have it and i use it these days all the time.
Just imagine, recently i went for a drink and the Tuscan was parked in the full sun. When we can back... crazy warm inside... so, yes air con needed, according to me.
Yes yes, i know the air con works... ehhh... funny... but it does works.

So yes, i would only go for a Tuscan with air con.

But guess it all depends on how badly you need (want) a Tuscan, dont rush, but jump on the one you want.

A TVR dealer quoted me circa £1K as a retrofit - maybe I looked impoverished.....

It was for me too.

I turned down a mint 4.3 rebuilt Tuscan and went for a standard 4 that had it.

With hindsight an engine/clutch/diff rebuild and £10k later, I should ahve gone for the 4.3 and had it retrofitted, it would have been cheaper!

I would say, if you find "THE CAR" don't just right it off because it doesnt have it. £3k may seem steep for a retrofit, but its a hell of a lot cheaper than a full rebuild!

No way! You only need the roof on when it's raining so trust me there are far more important things to worry about than cold air blowing in your face. The argument is a whole different ball game in a cerbera or a sag or t350c but in a tuscan no.

When I bought mine I was told it had aircon, however in fact all it had was the button and blue led frown(( was a private sale and was not disappointed smile))

I have aircon in my Mk1 and its useful to have. There will be times when you want the roof on on a hot day or in strong sun (OK, your wife will..........), and with the roof on on hot days I leave the aircon on with the windscreen ball vents closed to give some cooling air to the footwells.

By the way, if anyone says it doesn't work well then its probably a maintenance issue. Mine is factory fit and can blow really cold.

Just got my air-con re-gassed and working as it should. In the recent hot still weather in heavy, very slow, M25 traffic sheer joy and would thoroughly recommend having it. Agree with all who say TVR motoring is best without the top and rear screen provided you are on the move!!

Gordon, spend the money on your Vert ... upgrade it to 4.5 SS with new ECU,full respray and if the interior is looking shabby get that done to ..... Then you have a NEW car to enjoy. I doubt I will ever sell mine , so value is irrelevant other than for insurance writeoff and mines now agreed £55k.
Keith, no need to spend any money on it, even with nearly 30,000 miles the interior is like the day it came out of the showroom as is the paint, I would like a 4.5 BUT then it's not an original car I like to keep them as they came out of Blackpool, silly I know but it's just the way I am........

Never used the AC on my vert until last year.
Had it recharged as a great for my wife for the drive to Spain.
It lasted two days smile
We just laughed, turned it off and got on with the drive.

Thanks all for your input on this, much appreciated.

I agree that it shouldn't be a deal breaker but I'm thinking I'd like to have it idealy ( I don't want to give the wife any excuse for not going on road trips).

On another note, apologies if I didn't reply to people about my posting saying I was looking for a car. The post has been taken down by admin as you can't put want ed ads in, sorry to admin and all who responded, I wasn't trying to abuse the rules.

I agree. It should not be a deal breaker. But It is so nice to have it. I put mine on all the time. You will appreciate when it is hot 30degree with blazing sun. It can be a bit too much. Drove to South of France, after an hour I was toast. Put back the roof with air con and it made the drive so much more enjoyable. Even if you are stuck in traffic with the heat we are having. or it is raining outside. Sometimes you just can't be bother to have the roof off. Then you would wish you have air con in my opinion anyway. However once you have it, try to use it as much as you can. Like most things- the more you use it, the less likely it will go wrong.

As you say, use it. I mentioned above that mine only worked for two days after a recharge but then that was the first time I'd switched it on in two years.
I'd booked several very nice hotels for the drive down to southern Spain and me and the Wife looked a right horrible sweaty pair when we arrived at each hotel smile
