I got my Tuscan 4ltr in October 2011. Its now 2 years and 9 months later and I love it more than ever. What I didn't fully appreciate is how much I've spent in that time to get it to where it is.

Retrim
2 x Clutches
Poly bushes fitted
Nitrons Refurbed
Front disks upgraded
Various splashings of CF, from seat backs and front splitter to the ACT AirBox
4.3ltr rebuild by Power
New stereo, Amp & Speakers
Countless consumables (Tyres etc)

Tallied up my reciepts last night for all of this, not including fuel, insurance and oil etc and Ive spent over £24k!

Yep, with the cost of the car and that £24K I could have got myself a Vantage or GTR!
Oh well, best keep these hidden from the domestic banker and continue to enjoy this awesome car.

Anyone else tallied up theirs? Please say I'm not alone!

There have been various threads on this sort of thing in the past.

I prefer not to think about it as I would probably cry biggrin

I must be tight as apart from servicing from POWER every year (average £500) the TVRs I have owned have cost me nothing except tyres and a aircon gassing

I keep a blog on my profile and the service/repair cost of both my Tuscans works out at about £800 per year, this does not include upgrades, tyres , tax , petrol & insurance. Just with upgrades that cost doubles, and I hardly dare look at the depreciation of th MK1. Although what else can you get for the money that compares ?

You're using the word 'spent', which can be a bit harsh & make you think you've lost out.

May I suggest you use the word 'invested', far easier to reconcile mentally, & true in the extent that you 'invested' in making your/partner/friends/general public lives better/more fun for having the experience of it!

How much do you think of money when you give it some revs & enter warp drive?

Your car must be stunning by now & a real credit to you. Enjoy It!

You are definitely not alone!! But providing you now keep and enjoy the car for a while the expense seems more justifiable with time.

I've had mine for 14 months and spent a mere £3,200 on it so far....

The biggest single expense was a new clutch shortly after I brought it.

My approach is not the most cost effective one - I do none of the work myself and always ask the garage (str8six every time!) to walk all over it and fix everything they can find. Amazing what little things can be found lurking if you look hard enough, but I'd rather have it right.

Probably not the cheapest approach, but I do seem to have a very reliable car...

Not a Tuscan, but I bought my Tamora in late October last year, and have spent - or rather 'invested' well over £12k in upgrades in the past 10 months - and I haven't even had the 4.3 upgrade yet! yikes

Absolutely, a 60k vantage purchased today will see epic depreciation over the next 3 years, 20k or more probably.. Servicing ain't cheap either.. I thought about it very seriously... Couldn't really live with the depreciation.

No clue about a GTR though.

Just tallied up my receipts for the 12 years of ownership and they total £14,932.70 this includes tyres, all service and repairs etc, so I don't believe it's at all bad, averaging out at £1,066.00 a year.
Although she who must be listened to, will not see it like that.

Kind regards,

James
