During bit of random fettling I noticed the boot light not working. Upon popping the holder I noticed one of the wires disconnected. Whilst it didn't look like it had worked itself free as the spade was quite tight when reattached, I reconnected it and it worked. Sure enough two days later I had a flat battery even on he trickle. I'm assuming it was disconnected previously for this reason. Anyone know how the switching works ? Is it a contact/prox switch or should it work off ECU logic (as I'm assuming the correctly functioning interior light does) ?

The boot light switches off by the latching of the catch. This is why we usually disconnect them as folks put the boot lid down but sometimes neglect to latch them closed, then the boot light stays on and flattens your battery within two days! To make sure that the latch is switching off the light simply close the latch mech with a screwdriver whilst the boot lid is open. Then press the badge to open and the light should come on again.
I hope that this helps and best regards to all, Tony

Thanks Tony, that explains why it was done. Just checked it and the light stays on even in the locked position. Pushing the locking arm down though makes it go out so assuming the prox switch needs some adjustment if it's possible.

Does it use an "ordinary" bulb? Could it be swapped for an LED type?

Would consume a lot less power if accidentally left on scratchchin
