I can get one that's not damaged for £300 already painted in primer, surely it will cost at least that to repair? It's pretty bad & much worse than it looks in the pictures. I'll certainly be looking into it mind, even if it's to repair & sell on or trade in against another one.

Could you claim under your insurance for the service bonnet to be replaced and repainted and also for the subsequent bonnet damage?
Yes this is what I was thinking about, but because they wouldn't get a colour match I'm pretty sure they would have to do the entire car which would work out brilliant for me! Unless of course they decide to write it off, which is not so good!

Does insurance cover incidents where bits have simply fallen off? And whether you want to take the hit on future insurance renewals.

Whether it has simply fallen off or not, damage is damage at the end of the day so should be covered. & the premiums may well go up but I have protected no-claims (for what that's worth) & as it stands at the minute I only pay £210 a year. It's certainly going to be a damn site cheaper than paying for a respray anyway!

That's really bad luck, feel for you.

I'm no fibreglass expert, but could that not be repaired? After watching enough Wheeler Dealer episodes, I've seen worse than that sorted out.

As far as the paint is concerned, have you got any? If not, are you sure it's a custom colour and not something like reflex purple or olive? If it is a standard reflex colour, then get some from here http://tvrpaint.com/ and give it to the body shop. I had a section of the rear of my car sprayed a few years ago and bought 250ml of paint (reflex charcoal), and I've still got over 50% of the paint left over which I use for touch up. I was told by the body shop that blending in the reflex colour was very easy.

Hope you get it sorted!

no claims protection is a bit of a con I think, although better to have it than none.
it goes like this,"yes sir your have still got your 40% discount but we still have to put your premium up!!"

After my spin and having my front panels damaged my insurance has gone up by about 50 quid. I also drive a little yaris with protected no claims - that's actually gone down to 190 but I think that is more due to the premiums going down in general since last year!

So more recent news - after talking it over with a local-ish TVR specialist I'm going to call my insurance tomorrow! As soon as he saw it he said to claim on insurance, & as there's no way they'll get a colour match they will have to do the whole thing, which is nice.

So I'm going to ask then to send out an assessor to see it, then hopefully I'll be asking you all what colour to pick! Not holding my breath just yet though.

Good that things are moving forward smile.

Thanks Chris but IF the insurance does come through then it will be going via SD Autotech over near York & to the guys he uses. We'll see though, they might not even pay out yet!

A black Citroen Xsara coupe. I tried looking at the front of the Tuscan given I'd seen this topic earlier in the week, but you zipped off before a van came round the roundabout and and I stayed put (due to having some old style bins in the back for filling with firewood at work (chopped pallets!) which would have fallen over should I have dropped the clutch at 1500rpm in first hehe).

Can't remember the last time I was at a club meet, I seem to have got too busy with projects at home recently with the Griff in bits for the (insert large number here)'th year!

Have seen Simon (EY RO) a few times though, through borrowing his engine crane.

Do you do the TVRCC (third Thursday) meets (or PH) ?

Just as well you didn't see it, they don't look nice with that front bonnet missing! Yeah I go to both meets whenever I can, or should I say when my car is running!

Also I've just logged a claim with insurance, so we'll see how it pans out! Fingers crossed...

Hypothetically speaking, if they were to right it off can you withdraw the claim?

As far as I know, yes. I'm not forced to accept their offer if it's peanuts so they'd have to cancel the claim anyway I reckon? Anyhow I spoke to the guy who's gunna be dealing with the insurance & he said they'll just thrash it out between them until a deal is reached that they are both happy with & then I just pay the excess when it's completed. He said it won't get written off as it's going to be much cheaper to repair it than write it off?!

I'd be surprised if somewhere like surface and design had to respray the whole thing instead of just the panels btw.

They'd have to do the lot as it's not a standard colour. It's one that somebody somewhere made up once upon a time. Yes it's a purple reflex but is most certainly not a TVR purple reflex. If it goes through it will be Chris Gregory at Auto Refinishing doing the work through Steve at SD Autotec, who has already said it can't be matched.

I was going to reply to your earlier post and suggest Chris but I see you are going that way. He does great work.
