hi,for the first time today I had a hot start problem, i.e.my Tuscan wouldn't turn over in tescos car park (most embarrassing!)15 mins later it started with out a problem!!!
I've seen this talked about on here before,is the general idea to get an improved starter motor? my car has never done this before in my 2 yrs of ownership

I guess starter motors on most Mk.1's are getting a bit old now. They can be given a bit of 'love'. I cleaned a load of carbon/crap of the pinion gear...and that did make the motor sound better - and it would disengage off the flywheel after starting!

Having said that, if you trace +ve lead ex the battery to the starter/alternator, it runs to the front of the chassis on the N/S and then BACK down to the starter on the drivers side (quite a distance). The leads get hot - as they run for the first part by the exhaust/catalysts....and they are getting old too. So, the resistance increases with heat...due to traffic, low speed parking etc, and there's not enough oomph to turn the engine over when you come to start after such a situation.

Leave it all to cool, the wire resistance decreases - and you can fire the engine up!
