Just putting down the deposit on my first TVR, very excited and massively nervous at the same time! So I thought I'd put a post on here in case anyone knew the car. I was originally looking for a T350 but the draw of the removable roof became too much so a Tuscan it is, a 2005 MKII from TVR Mads in Yorkshire, CT05OCV (link below).

http://www.tvr-mads.co.uk/CT05OCV.html#

Does anyone have any previous experience of this car, previous owners, servicing and so on (seems to be mostly down south, which suits me being in Surrey myself, at Racing Green and Gatwick TVR)?

It's going in for a service mid week at X-Works in Lancashire so hopefully any niggles will get sorted then.

Any thought or experience of the car would be much appreciated. This will be my first TVR so I really don't want to buy a pup!!
Cheers,
Sean

Looks a lovely motor and hopefully paul and heath will be giving you a clean bill of health. Are x works giving the car a pre inspection before purchase?

Congrats and welcome, looks a cracker. Last Autumn we had a Sunday gathering under the banner "TOSH - Tuscans Over Surrey Hills". I'll be putting out a post to restart now the weather is better, feel free to join in, Lots of fairly new Tuscan owners in this area.

Portzi, I was planning to give the x-works guys a call tomorrow or Monday to get their view and find out how long it would take to book in an inspection, can they fit it in with the service next week for instance. As it's my first TVR I think it's probably a good plan to get an independent inspection done, even though they are already servicing it next week.

What do folks on here think and what sort of money are you looking at to get the inspection done? Obviously it'll be a lot less than the car cost, so probably better safe than sorry!

That's a nice looking car Sean, hope the purchase goes ahead smoothly.

Looks like you're not far away from Speed 3 or me (I'm just south of Redhill).

I still regard myself as somewhat of a Tuscan Virgin having only bought mine last summer but bloody love it ! I don't know why I didn't do it years ago. Spped 3 (Rob) was really helpful before I bought mine, I knew very little and he invited me round to see his and gave me some good guidance.

Look forward to seeing you at TOSH and feel free to get in touch if you want any advise... Not that I know much compared to 90% of people on here.

Great choice smile

I'd hope that if they are servicing at anyway, that you could get an inspection done at the same time so maybe an hr or 2's labour max to give it a full once over and write up a report, definitely worth asking.

Hi Sean,

don't know about this car specifically but a few years ago now I bought my 2005 Tuscan 2S (since sold) off TVR Mads.

James and X-Works were excellent to deal with and know their TVRs inside out so I very much doubt it will be a pup! No harm in checking though.

Enjoy your ownership, they are great cars. Suggest you take it easy at first until you get to know the car well; don't just floor it pulling off a roundabout!

I'll give them a call tomorrow and see what they can do, but I know I'll feel better about the whole thing once I've had someone who knows what they're doing check it over.

Out of interest has anyone had any problems getting their cars through the MOT with a de-catted exhaust? Did you have to get the catalytic converters put back on for it to pass?

It's unlikely to pass normally without the cats in, so either make sure you have a pair and fit them just for the MOT, or find a friendly tester (getting rarer these days).

I see you're in surrey, so for servicing etc I can recommend Calvin (PHer Blackpoolrock) who runs Wilton Morgan Engineering with his father, they're based near Wokingham Berkshire but worth the trip over!

If you're free this coming Tuesday night then come on over to the Berkshire meeting at Peacock Farm pub just near Bracknell. Lots of friendly people, and hopefully if the weather holds out then should be the first big turn out for the year. I think the record last summer was 70 odd!

Thanks for the servicing recommendation, Wokingham isn't too far away from me.

I'll try and make it to the meet on Tuesday, but I'm back at work on Monday after two weeks jury service so who knows what my week will look like! I won't pick up the car for a week or two anyway I expect so I'll definitely make the next one, assuming these are a monthly get together.

Good to hear that James has such a good reputation, fingers, etc. still crossed for the service and inspection next week.
