Hi all,

Spoke to Allan Howell yesterday. tremendous fella. Unfortunately he is 4hours and 23 mins away from me. I am thinking of buying the kit and having it done locally. Rathr than getting shafted £80 + VAT from some dealers. Does any one know a person near Surrey that can do the bonnet conversion and the start button to a mark 1 Tuscan?

Thanks guys?

You could try Autotech Prestige previously Salford Servicing near Milton Keynes, Rick in the bodyshop done my bonnet conversion ( Gas Strut ) and they took some photo's recently for their website for getting more work.
Rick is a top bloke when it comes to working on TVR'S he used to work for Powers in there bodyshop.

They seem to prefer using their own kit. I want to use Alan's kit. Sounds a better made kit. Or is this not the case? £540 is the cost with them and £295 with Alan, however need to travel nearly 300 miles......

I'd go with Alan's kit (I have done on mine). The fibre glass tends to warp (when opening and closing) with gas struts..

Did you ever see Raj29 video on You Tube in regards to his conversion? It looks like the bonnet is going to snap in two... Thanks Coco. Any other ideas you are looking to do or have done? Alan has some good extras.

I'd be really keen on getting the bonnet kitted fitted in the Surrey area as well if there's anyone around here doing it.

Good stuff, I'm on the case. Nearest place for us is Performace which is in Hearfordshire where Coco had the start button done. They seem very nice and will probably boom with them. Slightly dearer than TVR Central in Wolverhampton but the distance is far more so evens out on the cost. Will let you know.

Regarding the gas struts, they can be adjusted so the pressure is not high.

Good luck with the conversion

Just ordered the kit from Allan Howell and found a mchanic here that has worked on Tuscans before. He is in Carshalton I believe. We went to the same school as him too in Sutton. He will be doing my Start button too.

That's great news, think I better go ahead and get the kit ordered then.
Thanks for doing the research

Tuscandani, what garage are you using in CARSHALTON? I live in there and was looking to get the bonnet conversion done on mine, so if the garage is local and decent that would be fantastic!

I will ask him after I've seen mine. Fingers crossed it's a good job. Will post pics as soon as I've got mine back.

The other option could be paying for Allan to come down here. I've spoken to him and he'd be willing to travel (at a price obviously)as long as there are at least 2 cars to do, price wise it's pretty fair. PM me if you're interested in doing this (I'm based between Redhill and Horley)

it's not really an optiona s it would be approx £400-500. I thought of that but 300 miles per trip is not feasable in my eyes unless you are willing to pay that up. The kit is £185 and the instructions seem easy to follow. However, I am no car mechanic so I have opted to get some one in. Will let you know. Thanks.

If there's 2 or more Allan will do it for £395 each car, so taking off the price of a kit at £185, that's £210 per car.
Which I think is a fair price taking into account his travel time and the reassurance that he's done 40 plus of these so he knows what he's doing.

Right then, the Surrey bonnet conversion looks to be on. So far there's Tuscandani and myself and it looks provisionally like it's going to be around Sunday 7th June. Any one else ?
