Have recently bought a tuscan, which has not long had a 6k service

No idea what oil the dealership would have used. What would recommended to used to top up?

I use 5W40, which I think is recommended by TVRPower.

Make sure you're familiar with the procedure too. Engine oil needs to be up to about 80c, then with engine running unscrew the cap, then turn off engine and immediately check the level. It's a dry sump so the longer you leave it before checking, the more oil seeps back into the swirl tank screwing up your reading.

Thanks guys

Does it matter if he oil from the service is 5w and topped up with 10w or vice versa, I.e can they blend as I don't know what was put in it?

You don't really want to blend oils.

I've been told many times that Different manufacturers use different additives to create the fully synthetic oils so you really want to stick to what you have.

That said, wrong oil is better than no oil!

Found out from the dealership it's using valvoline vr1 20w / 50 so very glad I didn't put in a 5/40 or 10/40 hoping it was the right one

That said having got the engine warm, turned it off to take a reading but couldn't see any thing on the stick, does the engine need to be running to take the reading? Apologies, new paranoid owner not wanting to do anything wrong!

Doesn't sound ideal.

What's the history of the car? What's the reg?

Well, for me it was the same... I didn't see a thing. When I did search in PH, I found out that for some owners there is just a bit of oil on the stick when the engine is cold. So went for that... I filled up with a couple!! of Litres before finally reaching the stick. I was surely shocked and didn't start the engine. I asked the TVR specialist to pick her up and solve the "issues". But still I am very curious what I did wrong... Guess, just like you.

It's a w reg. has just come out of a 6k service in the last 500 miles or so and has had a rebuilt at power

I hoping its user inexperience rather than car

Also there is no minimum line, just a hand scratched on max!

Just had a 6k service at Powers and on the invoice it says 10/40 oil used.

Always check mine after a run and the car is warm, put away in the garage turn engine off leave for a couple of mins then check without screwing the cap down.

I've heard you can take the reading with the engine running, although the proper way is to do it within a few seconds of turning off.

Apparently checking when the engine is cold is inaccurate due to not knowing the amount of oil that has drained out of the engine into the swirl pot. Something to do with the differing positions the oil pump ends up in, which has an effect on how much oil is able to seep out.
