Thanks again for the info.

Essentially I can afford to run a Tuscan/Cerb incl petrol, dep'n, insurance etc. AND 12k miles of maintenance per year, what I probably won't be able to afford is one big bill of over £5k.

In your honest opinions would that be more or less likely with a Tuscan than with a 4.2/4.5 cerb?

Also, if I get a Tuscan that has had a recent rebuild, do TVR/Dealers extend the warranty to cover their own work? Or if it happened again (say within 12 months) would have to foot the whole bill?

Clutch/gearbox/chassis/wheels (assuming spiders)/suspension/etc. is all pretty much the same. The electrics are temperamental in a different kind of way in the Tusc, but to the same extent as in a Cerb. So, we're left with the engine. Simple as that.

You get a 6 month(!) warranty on rebuilds from TVR. However, what they say the warranty is, and the quality they're legally obliged to provide in a motor vehicle are different things... Buying from a dealer will hopefully insulate you against this a little.

Maybe I wont proceed with my purchase after all ..........

Do your financial planning, do your research (and then do some more), take your time when buying (TSS does an excellent buying guide, ask him for a copy), then go and find one you like and buy it. You only live once.

I'm repeating myself as I've said this in another post, but anything you buy can/will break. The badge is pretty much irrelevant, there will always be a s**tter out there, and you'll always be as capable as the next person of buying it.

There are no guarantees your intended Tuscan won't break....there are none that it will. Research and patience should help steer you from the bad ones, bad luck which you can't avoid might take you back to one.

Approaching with your eyes open is good advice, but it's applicable to any high perfomance car, surely?! Each have their own quirks and issues, and for the £20-£30k you're looking at, there's nothing to touch it for the combination of looks, individuality and performance.
For more reliability, you'll probably end up going German, paying more for a similarly aged car, with lesser performance (speed wise), and less individuality.

I'm not an owner, I'm in the same position as you, looking to buy. This is what I've worked out, and it's why I'm going to do it as soon as I can.

Hope this helps!

Well.....done the research, test drove the MK1 awsum, more research, still a bit worried, drove the MK2, saw the quality interior and.............bought it !!! Pick it up in 12 days and like others started a thread elsewhere to report all the problems (if any !!) Should be an interesting time !!

Thing is, an engine is an engine. Be it Tuscan, Cerb, Wedge, Griff, Chim or Tesco.
My mate has just blown a piston ring on his 4.2 cerb for the second time!!! He went the indie route to repair it the first time and with 20/20 hindsight this may have been a problem. TVR power are doing it this time, but the cost is 4k+++

The point is that any Trevor has the chance of going badly wrong. And lets not get started on electrics...............

I love my Tuscan. I use a Tuscan race team for servicing and repairs. I shop around. I hope it doesnt blow up, but I still push it hard. (I'm going to track it this summer as well). For me, any problems are far out stripped by the welded on smile that distorts my face as I plant my right foot.....

My mate (with the cerb) said to me before i bought the Tuscan that 'if you have to ask how much then you probably cant afford it'. Tounge in cheek i think, but still good advice.
