Hi all,

Planning on doing a few track days plus the standard (304mm ?) discs look lost inside the 18" spiders I have on my 2000 Tuscan.

I'd like to upgrade the rotor size, not keen on the extra weight of big discs but it's got to be done! Should I go for 322mm or go all out at 330mm? There can't be a huge difference in appearance, 4mm radius can't be that obvious?

Thanks,
TC

Have you got 6 bolt calipers?

Brake fluid change and some Carbon Lorraine pads will give all the braking you need for a Trackday.

Old fluid and EBC Yellowstuff pads have served me well in the Tamora.

Hallo,

Still have a NEW 322 mm disc and bell set-up for sale.
Disc are custom made, grooved and bells are newly anododised.
Had these made for a guy over here but in the end he needed a 304mm set-up for clearance.
Can send pics if needed.
Regards
hans

I've got the 6 bolt callipers so I can use spacers to get bigger discs under, and I know that pads and fluid would probably suffice but as I mentioned, looks play a part too.

I'd love alloy 2 piece but they generally mean a whole lot more dough!

These are my brakes at the mo, I believe the callipers are the right ones to use, the discs are barely bigger than the rears!

They are the very early 291mm discs shared with the 4.2 cerb.

They are the size of discs and 6 bolt AP CP5200 calipers that I have/had. I fitted the 330mm discs no problem.

If they're the early 291 mm size, they come with the four bolt version of the CP5200 (from the pic I'd say that is the case) and the biggest you can upgrade to without swapping calipers is 304 mm.

Not sure where you got that from but I'm afraid that is incorrect... I've recently changed my very early 291mm discs to Brummie's 330mm discs with 6 bolt callipers

The 291mm originals were crap as well, I can highly recommend Brummie's they're very good indeed. The ONLY downside is I now seem to get a lot more black dust, not that it really matters!

My July '00 was the same with 291/6 bolt setup as standard. The 291 discs were AP racing IIRC, unlike the drilled 304s that TVR swapped to in Sep 2000. I don't think the discs were the issue, it was the standard TVR Ferrodo pad compound that had about as much bite and feel as mahogany.

yes Swapping them for DS 2500 or the equivalent CL/Pagid compounds makes a massive difference, easily the best price/performance ratio braking upgrade on any TVR. You can always upsize discs at a later stage.

Ive been running a 4bolt calliper with 2piece 304mm set up with brummies CL pads and fluid for a while now but I am about to put some 6 bolt callipers on. As I already have the bells I'll just be upsizing my rotors. What is the biggest size disc the 6bolts can take?

I want to go large as I have an imminent rebuild of either a 4.5 or 4.7 Speed six in mind so I would like mighty brakes to match.

Thanks in advance

330mm is the max for the 6 bolts.

Bought a set this week, being fitted now at DG CWR at the 6K service. Looking forward to trying them out next week.

Hassle free service, couldn't have been more helpful.

Well I picked the car up yesterday and went out for a 200 mile drive today to bed the brakes in. Just an incredible improvement.
My Tamora was on standard discs and Red Stuff pads. As I don't do track days the pads were far too hard and with no heat in them they felt pretty poor.

Now with the bigger discs on the front and DS2500 pads all round they are epic and I still think that there's more to come as they bed in. Much better initial bite inspiring great confidence that you can safely brake later.

With 2 changes at the same time I can't tell you which one did it, but as a combo they are so good. Wish I'd done it when I bought the car.

Bloody Samsung auto correct.

I've decided I'll be scraping my dream of AP 6bolts as the set I acquired need too much investment to get them to road worthy (same cost as new setup) so I've decided I'll be doing the hi spec monster 4 upgrade which will allow me to go to the 335 max I could do the 360 max but will mean a 330min that's too much larking around.

Gonna run the mintex 1144 for road use then put the CLs on for long trips and tracks smile
