I am looking to buy an S1 2000 Year for export. But I don't have access to the same level of expertise here as in the UK so any car I buy I have in my mind needs to have had a recent rebuild.

Is this necessary or am I worrying to much? Friend's in the trade in the UK say the Tuscan engine is notorious for needing to be rebuilt after not very many miles.

Some solid advice is greatly appreciated

Some, not all of the original factory engines suffered from poor spec components being used.

There are two main specialists in the UK who rebuild these engines to a much better than new specification and both offer 100k mile warranties and can be trusted. These are Powers Performance and STR8SIX, find a car with a fairly recent rebuild by one of these would be my suggestion.

In fairness the Speed 6 is not that 'special' an engine.

Parts are available and any competent mechanic can fit them. Just needs to be done in an conscientious way. M4tti did an excellent rebuild thread. There's also a pdf version of a top end rebuild that is a very extensive read. Those, along with the Sag bible should be enough information for a decent local mechanic.

That said, a rebuilt engine should give some peace of mind.

If your take one over to Canada I would go for a recently rebuilt or post 2004 car.

My first Tuscan was a year 2000, had a rebuild at 35k miles. I bought it at 70k miles and had to have it rebuilt after adding 34 miles frown
It's first rebuild was at the factory so had the same monkey metal components for the rebuild.

After 2004 the materials were greatly improved.
My 2006 Tuscan has nearly 70k miles now and going strong.
