Hi All, I have traced an electrical fault on my car down to the META alarm, basically in the box/unit one of the relays, the biggest one stick on, hence the indicators (predominately the NS) stay on. Tap the relay and the indicators go out. Now my profession is an electronics engineer and I'm not wholly convinced its the relay its self and there are other external factors, highly lightly a bad earth, which is allowing residual current to hold the relay. This is all speculative at the moment.

So what I really could do with is a full wiring diagram/schematic (of the car not the box, but even better if someone has the box diagram), can anyone send or point me in the right direction? I did see the 80 page one in an earlier thread, but thats not what I need.

Many thanks
Steve

Hi All

Well after some interesting reading, it turns out there are known issues with the META M99T alarm , which is fitted to the Tuscan and as it turns out many other cars too. It also turns out that they suffer from stuck on indicators and flat batteries as well. So with a bit of reading it turns out that one of the relays fitted in the alarm box (which I found sticking but did not think would cause this) actually is a known source of the problem.

So I have ordered 2 relays, to replace the ones fitted and I will keep you informed of how it goes, fingers crossed no stuck on indicators or flat batteries. If this does work and anyone else has an issue, drop me a line

Regards
Steve

Will do, I have ordered new replacement relays for the PCB, which will be fitted tomorrow. I have got a lot of information from the guys at Abacus Alarms too, apparently these are well known issues, especially when the started motor starts playing up (hot start problems) and the extra current this draws and the effect on the relays within the alarm. Which would tie up with what I had, as the started motor without much notice decided to develop the hot start problem. I have changed the starter for a heavy duty M5 one and what a difference, the engine spins over so fast. Anyway, from my reading, working out the circuit and Abacus, I'm very confident of a fix. Also I'm hoping for extended battery life as the relay sticking is one of the prime reasons for a flat battery. Which for once is not unique to TVR, as this alarm is fitted to a number of other cars which all have similar problems.

Well, changed the relays in the alarm box and all is good, everything now works as should. When opened up the main (heavy duty one) ones contacts were badly burned, not surprised there were issues.

To change the relays is a simple job, even for a non electronics person. I changed both relays, with just a simple soldering iron and side cutters (to disassemble the relays down to the pins in to the PCB), just go steady.

Main relay part number AZ976-1U-12DET BCM. £12.50
Lighter duty relay part number V23084C2001A403. £5.27
