Unless you have the capability to machine your own, the reduction in wind noise at speed is fantastic and you wouldn't regret the outlay in the long run.

If you have the roof on and off constantly also worth considering fasteners you can get on and off with fingers alone:

I bought a pair from Racetech at a slightly reduced price at Neil Garner's open day a couple of weeks ago. Far better quality than the original plastic variety that bend over time and they stop the rattles.

Was thinking about a replacement for hex drive bolts too and those knurled thumb screws look ideal. Size needed looks to be M5, can anyone confirm?

+1 for the knurled bolts. I bought them and I think M5 is the correct size from this prior thread:

Couple of points to note:

Use the plastic retaining washers supplied with the clip kit so the bolts are captive when unfastened.
Take care not to cross thread when in use, S/S bolt in Ally casting is easily done, if in doubt back off and realign.
The Berger bolts have a minimum order value or delivery cost I recall so they work out about £6 each, if there are more of you placing an order together, price will fall.
Put your old clips on fleabay, you'll be surprised what you get for them. I only had one as the other had broke but some chap in Austria paid about £15 for it.

Might sound a silly question, but how easy are the Race Tec ones to fit?

Not particularly difficult. Peel back a bit of the boot liner carpet below the bootlid seal. Drill through the fibreglass then be careful and dextrous with each of the nuts on the blind side. If they drop you're in trouble but I managed it without any tears or swearing.

As Rob says it's quite straightforward the only minor issue I had was the new holes that need to be drilled were on different centres to the old self tapping screws. I agree don't drop the nuts and it's a little bit of a contortion.

Very pleased with the final finishing touch:

Process for me was very similar to above but to spell it out:

- undo self tapping screws and remove old units
- drill holes of sufficient size to take the fixing bolts. I reused the outer hole left by the self tappers and a new hole towards the centre of the car
- remove the rubber trim from the top of the boot
- un-stick the carpet below the holes
- carefully fit and tighten the bolts holding the clips
- in my case remove the plastic washers from the screen clip hex screws and remove screws
- stick two plastic spacers to the end section of each clip
- reassemble plastic washers on securing mechanism using knurled nuts rather than hex screws and tighten
- re-stick carpet
- re-fit rubber trim

All done!

Liking the suggestion of knurled nuts! I don't have access to the car at the moment, so can someone just confirm the size to order?

M5, but what length?

Cheers

I went for 20mm and they work fine

I bought 16mm, the same length as the screws in the kit. I also added a stainless steel washer to give a little gap between the clip and knurled nut.
